When NVIDIA started, just like any desperate founder or startup, they offered stock options to their early employees & engineers(which is in itself a good thing). Now, since NVIDIA blew, the employee stock options rose so high those early engineers & employees are retiring. I already have two stock options in two startups I believe in. Praying they blow one day. So my share can riiiiiiiise.💃 To me, it doesn't make sense to quit. But with $20m each & experience working in a company shaping the world, you can easily put $1m as equity to build your own startup. Better than 9-5 everyday. If you lose it’s nothing, if you win though, it’s even more! Even if you quit, $20 million is enough to start up a competitor company. The employees could form a synergy and the technical knowhow to design a product that beats anything Nvidia can come up with. Lol. The possibilities are endless.

Not arrogance.... But merely seizing the moment. Years before the onslaught of the AI euphoria and Nvidia becoming a Wall St. darling, I suggested Jensen had a vision and a plan. Moreover, his mentor-like friendship with Morris has translated beyond client relationship with TSMC. It is in fact an ironclad partnership. In private, I've advised my portfolio companies that Nvidia today is a prolific venture investor across the AI landscape and a key industry connector. With Jensen's hands-on approach, NVentures, the company's CVC arm grew its startup portfolio from $300 million in the beginning of 2023 to more than $1.5 billion today - making more than 24 investments last year alone. The deals include foundation model developers like Cohere and Mistral, AI cloud providers like Coreweave, picks and shovels giant Databricks, promising generative AI startup Runway, data provider Scale AI, model sharing hub Hugging Face, and search engine challenger Perplexity. Even more ambitious, the company also runs Nvidia Inception - an incubator and venture network that counts more than 20,000 early-stage companies among its membership. With Jensen, it is all about building a network of like-minded investors who share the same vision for the future of AI. I recently mentioned to several sovereign wealth fund clients that a few family offices with ties to the leading semiconductor companies are aligned with Jensen's vision and Nvidia's investment strategy, making for a potent alliance. Startups are hard. For most people, it will be the hardest thing they'll ever willingly do in their lives. Don't just take my word for it. Building a company is a million times harder than I expected it to be" At its core, building a startup is a paradoxical experience. You have to operate like your startup is the most important thing in your life; even though it is not. There will be a never ending demand to do more. And you will do it, at the expense of what truly matters -- health, family, and friends. After seven years of building tact.ai, I decided to step down. A choice made out of necessity not desire. I was simply too sick to continue on. Back then, I believed this was the only way. Despite the pain, there was pride in the perseverance. Would I do it all over again? Absolutely. But with the benefit of hindsight, I'd approach it differently. In a followup post I'll share what I have learned through personal experiences and watching others about how to navigate startup life better.
