#teamwork and #organizationalculture are the ingredients that nurture the #passion for what we do: my vision is the #resilience of our communities, my mission is the #underground space use. What are yours?
Today’s People Spotlight features Giuseppe M. Gaspari, PEng, MBA, MSc, MSE, a tunneling lead based in Canada who was recently recognized as one of Canada's Top 10 Under 40 engineers by Canadian Consulting Engineer. Coming from a long line of transportation innovators, Giuseppe understood at a young age how infrastructure elevates communities. It was through this early interest in the built environment that he discovered his passion for underground structures. Now a renowned tunneling engineer, Giuseppe has been involved in the Ontario Line metro project in Toronto, Canada, which will connect underserved neighborhoods to the central business district and provide affordable, fast and reliable transportation for residents. Working on the concept design stage, his team engaged local communities to understand how the construction and operation of the metro line would impact their daily routines. During my last trip on the London Underground, I was struck by the remarkable achievement of the nineteenth-century engineers who built its first Metropolitan Railway line in just three years for a relatively modest one million pounds. This led me to wonder in this article: why are some projects completed so swiftly and successfully, while others endure years or even decades of delays and significant cost overruns? https://lnkd.in/gB5TQKG3

Master's student urban design, urban planning, stormwater management systems design, groundwater modeling, and transportation planning.
📍Leiden, the Netherlands. One of my favorite views in the entire country of the Netherlands. 🇳🇱 From perron 4a of Leiden Centraal is the best-designed street cross section I've ever seen. This is an insane view. The proper bidirectional bicycle lanes 🚲 on both sides of the street, as well as separate crossing signals 🚥 for bicyclists, pedestrians👨🏽🦯🚶, cars 🚘, and buses🚍. 4 separate light signal systems working together. The very narrow vehicle lanes (but still enough turning radius for a bus or truck 🚛, by mere cm). The green buffers of grass and trees to improve livability and outright separate traffic 🌿🌲. The crazy wide sidewalks. The modern LED street lighting 🔆. The tunnel bypassing the busiest part of Leiden, Stationsplein. Oh and by the way, all this seen from a train station platform. This is everything I've ever learned as a young civil engineer. This is #proper #urbanplanning

Are you a railway transformer? “My railway dream is to travel on a rail that I have designed,” says one of our newly graduated civil engineers attending the tailor-made introduction program in railways in Sweden. As society transforms, there is a growing demand for sustainable mobility and public transport. Rail provides an efficient and reliable mode of transportation for people and goods. It is particularly useful for long-distance travel and heavy cargo transport. Here are some of our rail projects: ➡ Denmark: Copenhagen - Ringsted - Denmark's first high-speed railway ➡ Denmark: Electrifying future train operations ➡ Sweden: High-speed railway between Hässleholm and Lund ➡ Sweden: Designing part of the Norrbotten line in Sweden ➡ Norway: Urban development on rails in Bergen ➡ Europe: Digitalisation of Europe’s rail network enables high-speed trains Want to join us? On Stage 1 of the Mickleham Road Upgrade, we’re building extra lanes in each direction between Somerton Road and Dellamore Boulevard, adding new traffic lights and upgrading existing intersections. But before we can do all that, there’s an important piece of work we need to do, to protect or move utility services so we can make way for the extra lanes, upgraded intersections and new paths. Many of these services run along the entire length of Mickleham Road and parts of Somerton Road, and service thousands of homes and businesses across Melbourne’s north. We’re relocating these critical services you rely on every day, while keeping traffic moving. This includes more than: - 7km of telecomms cabling - 1.5km of water pipe - 1.6km of power cabling - 1.5km of gas pipe We also need to protect a 665-metre section of pipeline that delivers jet fuel to Melbourne Airport ✈️ and which runs beneath Somerton Road. Service relocation and protection is some of our most challenging work. We need to keep services running while keeping traffic moving, so you may not always see these works happening as much of it takes place underground or behind barriers to keep you and our workers safe. To sign up for project updates, visit https://bit.ly/3JXgJ3O or text MICKLEHAM to 0499 073 073. #Construction #Engineer #Infrastructure #Melbourne #RoadSafety Hume City Council, BMD Group, Service Stream

Technical Mastery: The Gordie Howe International Bridge The Gordie Howe International Bridge will rank among North America's top five longest bridges upon completion. Spanning approximately 1.6 miles, it connects Detroit, Michigan, to Windsor, Ontario. This engineering marvel features six lanes of traffic and a dedicated bike path, designed to reduce congestion and improve connectivity between the US and Canada. The bridge will also include modern customs plazas and state-of-the-art tolling facilities. As of April 2024, significant progress is evident with the main tower rising prominently and roadway sections nearing completion. This ambitious project aims to boost trade, enhance travel efficiency, and foster stronger ties between the neighboring countries. The Gordie Howe International Bridge showcases several advanced technical aspects. It features a cable-stayed design, with a main span of approximately 2,800 feet, ensuring stability and strength. The bridge's six lanes are supported by two main towers rising 750 feet, constructed using high-strength concrete and steel for durability. Wind-resistant design and seismic resilience ensure the bridge can withstand harsh weather and potential earthquakes. The dedicated bike path adds to the bridge's multifunctionality. Modern engineering techniques, such as modular construction and advanced monitoring systems, are employed to ensure safety and efficiency. Additionally, the bridge includes state-of-the-art customs plazas and tolling facilities to streamline cross-border traffic and trade. video rights : Respective owners DM for removal/credits #bridge #bridgeengineering #bridgedesign #engineering #civilengineering #civilconstruction #construction #engenharia #engenhariacivil
