Did you know that Newcastle is experiencing a skill shortage of Architectural Technicians/Technologists? ☝ Why? The reason behind it is that Northumbria University* hasn't offered an active AT course for several years now. 😕 Newcastle has experienced substantial growth in recent years, and architectural practices are securing larger projects, especially in Healthcare, Manufacturing, and Industrial & Logistic sectors. 📈 As a result, there is a need to find talented professionals who can contribute to these projects. If you are an Architectural Technician or Technologist and are open to relocating, I highly recommend considering Newcastle. 🙋♀️ Not only are there reputable architectural firms, but the cost of living is also lower... and the Geordies are a friendly bunch. 😊 Below is a screenshot displaying the Cost of Living Comparison between London and Newcastle. The South African Council for the Architectural Profession (SACAP) oversees the accreditation of South African Architectural Learning Sites (ALS's) to maintain education standards. SACAP began accrediting programs using CAA standards and became a Canberra Accord signatory in 2017. The Canberra Accord, signed in 2008, aims to facilitate the recognition of substantial equivalency between accreditation systems in architectural education among its signatories. It doesn't address professional registration. Substantial equivalency ensures comparable educational outcomes. The B Arch degree in South Africa transitioned from a six-year program to a five-year one with Honours and Master's components. The M Arch degree, NQF nine, equates to the previous six-year B Arch. SACAP's admission to the Canberra Accord eliminated the need to verify SACAP-accredited Master's degrees for registration in signatory countries. Experiential training and professional examinations remain requirements. International recognition of South African architecture degrees follows established procedures for application, including document submission, experiential training, and professional practice examination. Non-signatory countries still use previous procedures. SACAP recognizes graduates with 5- and 6-year B.Arch. qualifications as eligible Professional Architects. Current accredited qualifications in South Africa have varying registration categories based on study years and credits. Parity of undergraduate and Honours degrees internationally is assessed upon application.
