Not just on the bus but in the right position on that bus. Having participated in collegiate rowing in a "heavyweight 8", we learned how to place the right balance of weight and power into the crew shell. That is because when we did it right the shell spent much of its time out of the water or skimming the surface to generate the least amount of friction on the water. My normal position was "six-man" and that was based upon my performance in the boat. This analogy works in teams where you need not just the appearance of diversity but functional diversity that portends and realizes strategic advantage. Go for that!! #strategicthinking

How we implement people in education is so antiquated… it’s time to start embracing the unique value that each new teacher, counselor, or administrator brings! Leadership is about helping our people thrive so that students can succeed. 

All three of these models are simple to impliment into your team. You won't be perfect at it, but each time your team makes a break through they all feel it. Understanding your teams strengths and allowing them to do more of those things brings new perspective to the team. When you're able to pair that with with less dysfunction it is amazing what the team can accomplish - and how good you'll feel doing it!
