Trying to find a job in a job market you are ill prepared to tackle is hard. Not only do you have to deal with the anxiety from being laid off unexpectedly, but also the lost of valuable benefits. It makes it hard for one to put their best foot forward. In the last 7 weeks, I have submitted nearly 175 applications. Of those: -92 were rejections -4 wanted interviews, but changed the parameters of the job -7 have interviewed me and all have moved on with other applicants (or ghosted) - 1 offer received starting at the same salary I was offered in 2015 The job market is vastly changed since my last interview and job offer in 2015. Even entry level jobs want you to go through multiple interviews and take weeks before making a decision one way or another. Confidence can get low and learning how to sell yourself over and over can be overwhelming. Employers- please take a look at your hiring process to determine if multiple skills tests, interviews with multiple levels of management (and not all in the same interview), and requesting potential candidates send in getting to know you videos before they are even offered an interview is really needed for every position you offer. I understand (and agree) that cultural fit is important, but so is being able to get back into a job without the stress of having to go through hoops to prove yourself. Hello LinkedIn network. I am currently looking for my next opportunity. This is my 3rd month of unemployment. I really thought 2024 would be different for me. This year has been a challenge so far. The first weekend of 2024 a family member passed away. Literally every day of this year so far I have gotten a job rejection (Including 2 today). Daily I check my emails and I see rejection email after rejection email.    I have applied to over 1200 jobs since my unemployment began in November 2023. I have gotten 4 interviews. I have spent over $1,000 on resume services. I change my resume according to the job I apply to which has not worked either. I am hopeful and optimistic that I will find a job soon.   What I have found in this job search is that there is a lack of #compassion and #empathy . Some people are just so mean. Where is #kindness and #nice gone? The kinds of conversations I have in the few networking call that I have had are:    “How did you ever get any of your previous jobs? You don’t seem qualified at all” “It will be a challenge for you to get back into the job market with your job history.”   If you don’t have anything nice to say, then please don’t say anything at all.    Before anyone says start your own business, that’s too much and I have my health to focus on.    I have reached out to over 1400 people, 20 people have replied to me, only 6 people have either talked to me or have agreed to talk to me. Most of the replies I have gotten are not friendly. It’s embarrassing an ifd humiliating being left on read by so many people. I have changed the way I message people and still don’t get many replies. I get that everyone is busy, but doesn’t take much to take 15 minutes out of your day to talk. When I was employed, if anyone ever reached out to me, would always talk to them. You never know what someone is going through. So I always did what I can to assist. This job search has caused so much stress for me. Once you have heart surgery, you are supposed to avoid stress as much as you can. It has been so frustrating. I am supposed to focus on my health, but this job search does not allow it. I just want an opportunity. I hope some company will give me a chance.    I am interested in #strategy roles, #analysts, #businessanalyst, #associate , #consultant roles. Last few years I have worked in #consulting and have worked with various industries. I am open to any industry. I can relocate #national or #international. Times have changed and I know one of the best ways to find a job is through networking. I hope through my #network and #networking that I find my next opportunity. Dear HR, Please, do better. Have you ever been called for a job interview where you felt you shouldn't have gotten the call in the first place, because your background or experience and even skills didn't align with the job requisition? Yeah, I applied. I knew I wasn't the perfect fit.But can you really blame me? I'm a desperate job applicant. And desperation bites, you know Sometimes, out of desperation, I apply for things in hopes that, by a stroke of luck, I'm called and maybe even offered the job. Also, I apply because I know despite not having the qualifications, I can do the job. Shotgun applications aren't the answer. I get it, I have to be more strategic. But I also know a good HR wouldn't waste our time or theirs. My accounting background screams "misalignment" with your PR position. Yet, you call me in, only to confirm what my resume blatantly declares: I'm not what you're looking for. Why call me, if you're not willing to give my skills a chance. And you're only considering my academic credentials and work experience for the job. Was that...petty? Did you miss my CV entirely? Job seekers like me sometimes aim high, hoping for companies like yours to offer on-the-job training despite our lack of specific credentials. But if experience and academic background are non-negotiable for success, and you won't train, why the interview? They show up, and you repeat to them what they already know. Job searching is already difficult enough. Why make it even more expensive? Sometimes, rejecting an application is better than wasting an applicant's time. Think of the commute costs, the borrowed money, the shattered hopes for someone who already knows their chances are slim. Job hunting is hard enough, don't inflate it with false promises. Rejection stings, but crushed hope cuts deeper. Why should I go broke trying to find a job while already broke? If not for our mental health, please do it for our wallets. Hi Everyone, l lost my job and I'm currently going through a very tough phase. Any leads would be highly appreciated. I have been applying in 100+ companies and have also given a few interviews, but unfortunately, I haven't received any job offers after clearing all the rounds. It seems that either budget constraints or specific role requirements are causing the issue. #OpenToWork can be one of the most financially draining experiences, but I'm #NotGivingUp easily! As we enter January and Q1, just a friendly reminder that I am still looking for a new opportunity. If you have any connections I should meet or companies you know I need to be in contact with, I would love an introduction and your referral. If you know me, you know I will not stop and I will keep at this until, success! I could write books on the last few months of interviews and last minute compensation and job requirement changes that occur in final interviews and I can only assume it's because there are so many truly looking and NEEDING an opportunity because of unemployment. Sadly, some are truly unacceptable and the companies aren't changing the job postings online. It's misleading and truly a disservice to those looking to dive into something great. As a reminder to all, being unemployed doesn't undermine or devalue any of our skillsets or worth. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. The final two weeks of the year can be dreadful for those of us searching for new opportunities. Job postings, interviews, and offers can slow down as many prepare to spend time with family and recharge for 2024. Yes, it slows down. It does not stop. In November, I stopped applying as I was a finalist for four roles and mistakenly assumed an offer was inevitable. While those opportunities did not work out, I have started to apply for new roles and have three interviews this week alone. One is a final round for an organization I applied to in early November and am very excited about. When I applied, I thought, "This would be awesome, but the timing might not work out." Guess what? Stop giving job seekers advice. It's not helpful. Someone messaged me to take down my Open to Work banner. That it made me look desperate. im actually IS desperate. 20 months out of work, countless interviews, just ghosting and no offers. If you really want to help, don't give advice.... Instead.... Make an introduction for someone who is struggling. Ask YOUR employer if they have any openings that might be a fit. Send an encouraging note. Write a recommendation. Give a reference. Check in. There are tons of people going on 4, 6, 8 or more months of being jobless. So unless you are truly willing to help, just keep your opinions with you. Don't write have patience, good time coming etc. some even said or wrote back i have great work experience but gap is not workable for them 20 yrs of work experience verse 20 months no job.
