An insightful report from the Founders Forum ClimateTech Roundtables Forum that took place onsite at #LondonTechWeek 2024 ♻🌎 The forum hosted 100 leaders and innovators from the climate tech ecosystem. Special guests included Lord Callanan, Minister for Energy Efficiency and Green Finance, and Anousheh Ansari, CEO of XPRIZE. The event featured nine roundtable discussions on topics such as energy innovation, sustainable mobility, AI & climate data, circularity systems, retrofitting housing, decarbonising buildings, construction innovation, materials innovation, and adaptive food systems. Climate change will impact all of us, regardless of where we live or what we do. What are different scenarios and the impact of certain positive or negative interventions? How will it impact public health, cities, and agriculture? What are the key mitigation and adaptation measures, and what will be their impact? These questions are critical for all of us to ponder. They require a large amount of data and the ability to generate insights from that data. atomcamp has gained a significant capacity in data and AI. How can we use data and AI to address some of the above questions? We have been thinking a lot about it for the last few months. Finally, we have launched the Sustainability Lab at atomcamp. The lab will support governments, cities, the private sector, and development organizations through its capability at the intersection of data, AI, and climate change. Aamna Babar & Marium Naveed will be co-leads of this lab under the mentorship of Yahya B. & Fizza Amjad. They have already started a few initiatives in this field. We were thrilled to attend the recent TechNExt Festival hosted at Newcastle University. The event, brought together experts from academia and industry to explore the crucial role of Earth Observation (EO) in tackling environmental challenges specific to the UK. Phil Baldacchino-Steward, our Commercial Director, took the stage to deliver a thought-provoking talk. He emphasised the critical role of EO in understanding and addressing environmental issues plaguing the UK and how it empowers us to monitor our planet from space, gathering valuable data on everything from climate change to biodiversity loss. TechNExt served as a valuable platform for showcasing the power of EO research and its potential to create a more sustainable future for the UK. With continued collaboration between academia, industry, and policymakers, EO has the potential to revolutionise the way we manage our planet’s resources and ensure a thriving future for generations to come. We enjoy our joined contribution to "Pathways to sustainabilty" at PECS3 2024 (University of Osnabrück IUSF, PIK- Potsdam and me from NLF-department Innovation for ecological services). We think, action to speed up nature based solutions on climate resiliance is urgent. To reach larger scales effects, it needs more co- developement to strengthen clear focus: Carbon is heating, water is cooling and biodiversity is regulating our common future on planet earth. Within the next days, we will show how we will combine these very urgent components.
