A recent study I conducted with the GIZ ProSoil project on the co-creation of agroecology revealed a significant finding: most producers receive information about agroecology primarily from agricultural extension workers or their peers. Interactions and knowledge exchanges with researchers, however, are notably weak or even non-existent for the producers. I hope this first #KM4AgD24 Cafe on the theme of "Bridging the gap between Research, Policy and Practice through Indigenous Knowledge" will help fuel my reflections and provide avenues for further thought. #KM #Agroecology #GIZ

Learning to adapt to a changing planet requires more than teaching scientific insights based on data about the past. The Fifth Element embraces this broader vision of learning. Indigenous wisdom was lost when universities narrowed education down to 'teaching disciplinary knowledge'. We now understand the limitations of the dominant paradigm: our planet does not function like a machine that humans can take apart, study in separate (siloed) disciplines, and control. It is a living system that responds to what humans do to it. Relearning to be part of such a living system requires new learning settings. Join the search.
