This picture, taken 3 weeks ago, makes me emotional. On the surface, it's a customer buying some shoes. But past that, it's a testament to the years of hard work, labour and learning that has gone into building Pip & Henry... From scratch. Doing things like: - Designing and sketching shoe details - Working with suppliers to source materials - Understand manufacturing and shoe construction - Building a brand, a website and marketing assets - Pitching to investors for grant funding Everything on this table we created. The shoes, the children’s books, the multi-purpose shoeboxes, the drawstring bags, the branding and marketing materials. All born out of an idea inspired by my daughter. In business, we get so distracted by the race to 'do more' and 'have more’ that we rarely pause to reflect on what we've done so far. I'll never forget the lesson learned from my first ever lawn mower, spray painted blue and white... It feels like just yesterday that I was sweating under the sun, pushing that old lawn mover around the neighborhood. Designing flyers on a really old version of Microsoft and then going door to door selling my service at a flat fee of $10 a yard. There were some weeks I'd make $50 and some I'd make $100, just like there are ups and downs in every business. But at 10 years old this was really good money... Money that I could use to buy my first pair of sneakers. Fast forward to the present day, I'm deeply grateful for all the lessons I've had along the way. I was fortunate enough to be part of a tech startup in Akron, Ohio, where we saw our clientele grow from 10,000 to 580,000 in just a couple of years. I've also had the chance to manage a portfolio of companies that together, have managed to generate $237 million in revenue. Each of these achievements was an important step in my journey. What's the secret? No magic bullet here... Simply a combination of radical candor, extreme ownership, differentiation, recruiting top-tier talent, humility, and setting high standards. Each day is an opportunity to learn, grow, and push past our perceived limits. This isn't just my story. It's a testament to the power of perseverance; a blueprint for anyone looking to forge their path in life. So, here's to the ones hustling and grinding, the future CEOs in the making. What advise do I have for young entrepreneurs? Get started, and ship it even if you have no idea what you're doing When I was 13, my friends and I decided to build our own soapbox race cars on my grandparents' farm. It was crazy, but we just jumped right in - welding pipes, cutting metal, the whole nine yards. Of course, we had no idea what we were doing, and ended up with puffy, irritated eyes from the welding light. Instead of racing, we had to hide inside for two weeks! But you know what? After we recovered, the whole village pitched in to help us finish the project. The farm workers gave us old tractor parts and wheels to use. On race day, it was a total circus - the mayor even crashed his soapbox car! We came in last, but won a prize for being the youngest. The key takeaways? Just start, even if you're clueless. And don't try to do it all alone - building something successful takes a village, no matter how small. These days, my friends and I are all following different paths, but that crazy soapbox adventure taught us to embrace the journey, not just focus on the destination. S o my advice? Get started and ship it, scrounge up what you need, and don't be afraid to ask for help along the way. You never know where it might lead! #GetStarted #Community #Entrepreneurship #ShipIt
