👉Did you know, around 42% of individuals living with Type 1 Diabetes are at a higher risk of disordered eating? ❗️At present, the services are not there and actually conflict with one another, leaving individuals in these circumstances at an increased level of vulnerablility. 👉Factors include body image, stigma and attempts at managing glucose to a ‘perfect’ figure. A hyper focus on food to manage the disease is unhelpful for disordered eating as it reinforces an obsession with food control that is unavoidable. 👉The pressure on individuals, and in particular girls with diabetes is very intense with around 40% of girls and women living with type 1 diabetes having a form of disordered eating. ❗️There is so much unknown and so many misconceptions around this disease. 👉It is important that as SENDCo’s we continue to bang the drum on awareness of the impacts of medical status on our learners in and out of educational settings. 👉Diabetes has significant impacts on teaching and learning, from brain fog, concentration, mental health, anxiety, depression, mood changes and school avoidance. This includes our staff teams and facilitators too. #awarenessmatters #disorderedeating #diabetesawareness https://lnkd.in/euazZDtP https://jdrf.org.uk https://lnkd.in/edeSXsaf
