Very interesting efforts to extract the SecOC keys and be able to spoof bus signals with the correct CMAC later on, but I need to highlight that the ECU had a major security flaws, from poorly secured debug interface (it was vulnerable to power glitching), to unsecured crypto keys storage (it didnt use HSM for storing SecOC keys), and lack of secure flashing feature (it didnt check OEM signature on flashable payload) which allowed flashing of shell code to extract SecOC key from the RAM The good news is that, the new UNECE R155 regulations which will be effective on july 2024 will check that these missing basic mitigations (Annex 5 M16 & M11) have been followed , and will not grant the type approval otherwise. #automotivesecurity #automotivecybersecurity #hsm #r155 #carhacking #secoc #toyota
