I am looking for a rockstar Executive Assistant to be my partner in crime and help me manage my time at Mutiny. This role includes the traditional responsibilities of an executive assistant, but I am also looking for someone who can go beyond that to improve processes and serve as my voice when appropriate. This role is best for someone earlier in their career who is an excellent writer, has great intuition, loves to problem solve and leaves a trail of documented processes and color-coded spreadsheets behind them wherever they go. I'm looking for someone who wants to stay in this role for 3+ years and who absolutely LOVES being an EA. To me this sounds as though you’re looking for all the benefits of an experienced and accomplished Executive Business partner but only want to pay for an intern 🤔 While I’m sure it’s not the intention here, this devalues a profession that many people (mainly women) have worked long and hard at and have invested a lot of time and energy, blood sweat and tears into! This is where the umbrella term of ‘Executive Assistant’ is a problem because it suggests all EAs are the same but in fact there is a huge skills gap between a junior EA and a senior with many years experience. It’s worth noting that bringing in someone younger and cheaper to help manage your business is often a false economy as they may make costly mistakes due to their lack of experience. Conversely an experienced business support professional can help navigate pitfalls and bring agility to your business which will show up on the bottom line. 🙏🏻
Couple of red flags for me and I’ll go against the popular narrative of what a “great opportunity” this is. Someone “early” in their career may not have the relevant knowledge, skills or experience to serve as your voice when appropriate. Someone with experience and knowledge will be able to do that with ease, confidence and be able to read the room correctly. And secondly, what exactly is a partner in crime and how does that look in a work environment?
So people late in their career need not apply?
Salary band here is ~market given the hard skills you’re looking for so I don’t understand the comments around underpaying / undervaluing. The catch is that your ideal candidate will be so good in this role that you won’t be able to keep them in it for 3+ years…they’ll outgrow it and you would’t want to keep them there anyway bc you’d be underleveraging their talent, which would be better served elsewhere in the business (perhaps an ops role — something many strong EAs aspire to)
For all of the EA’s who wish they could apply to this role, would like to apply but don’t quite match the criteria, or those who apply and don’t get a call back… I want to talk to you. 1) I hire EA’s - my company, Sapphire Partners pairs fractional, high-level folks with amazing executives (like Jaleh Rezaei…feel free to connect and send your extra candidates my way?) 🤑 2) I train EA’s - my Sapphire Academy will elevate you if you’re stuck, open the door if you want this field but don’t know where to start, or help you get back into it if you’ve done it forever but need to freshen up your mad skills.💪 3) I mentor and connect EA’s - my Sapphire Community is a hub of small business leaders, incredible visionaries, and the admin staff who support them. You’ll never feel isolated or alone again. 💙 (https://community.choosesapphire.com/invitation?code=94AEFD)
ITT: 20+ year EAs complaining about the “early career” stipulation, but stay quiet when they see a req that asks for 15 years minimum and junior admins cry out for a fair shot. Y’all need to drop your ageism pitchforks. The irony is insane.
I am very excited to share I applied to this amazing opportunity to work with you, your team and Mutiny. I would love to connect to learn more about this role and talk about my experience as a Senior Executive Assistant to CEOs and C-Suite.

1moI applied for this job and was immediately emailed rejecting me clearly because I am not “early in my career” and have years of experience. We are laughingly in an era where your extensive experience is used AGAINST you. They also don’t want to pay for someone experienced so they will end up with someone who doesn’t know what they’re doing all so they can pay them less and this posting will still be here in a month. Good luck
