Sore joints and muscles are one of the most common conditions I see on a daily basis. A very large proportion of my patients are elderly, but the stiffness and achy joints do not discriminate – in that I have many young adults often presenting with sore lower back, or sore shoulders for example. One of the ways to both effectively treat and prevent stiffness and aches is stretching. Read more at: https://lnkd.in/gzk2nwK3

“…1/3 of physicians reported being repulsed by people with type 2 diabetes and viewed them as lazy (39%), lacking motivation (44%), and non-compliant with treatment (44%). Many witnessed professionals in their field making negative comments about patients with T2D (44%)” Experiencing weight stigma predicts higher levels of depressive episodes, stress, eating as a coping strategy, and an increased likelihood of binge eating. (Puhl 2020) I hypothesize the same things can be predicted, and more, among people who experience diabetes stigma. When will we learn that shaming and blaming doesn’t HELP individuals, but HARMS them? Physicians and health professionals often perpetuate this stigma due to unchecked biases and outdated beliefs about the conditions they’re treating. CHECK your implicit bias. LISTEN to your allied health professionals providing person-centered and empathic care. LEARN that being in a larger body and/or having type 2 diabetes is not by choice, or due to poor morals held by the individual, but rather due to a multitude of things like genetics, environment, trauma, and access. The system is hard enough to navigate as it is— do better! Check your privilege! Get out of your bubble!

More than ever, we need to address weight stigma in the medical community and promote supportive and compassionate patient care for people with higher body weight. Our new study suggests that these efforts also need to extend to diabetes stigma. The overlapping patterns of stigmatization of obesity and type 2 diabetes create legitimate barriers to patient care that must be dismantled. https://lnkd.in/ehjT9JJK https://lnkd.in/e5NvEmxA

Dr. Anupama Hegde, a General Physician at Apollo Hospital, addresses a common concern about recognizing the signs of a heart attack and how to respond. She explains that typical symptoms include central chest pain with a feeling of heaviness, which can radiate to the throat, shoulders, or arms, and is often accompanied by fatigue that worsens with exertion and eases with rest. Additionally, patients may experience nausea, vomiting, breathlessness, and general fatigue, particularly among diabetics and elderly women. In such cases, it is crucial to immediately call for an ambulance, avoid exertion, and refrain from driving. Seeking prompt professional medical help is essential to ensure safety and proper care. #HeartHealth #HeartAttackAwareness #ChestPain #MedicalEmergency #HealthTips #KnowTheSigns #StaySafe #Apollohospitals #Banglore

According to the American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA), about 15% of patients with diabetes will suffer from a diabetic foot ulcer. Of those, approximately 14% – 24% will require an amputation (accounting for 85% of all diabetes-related amputations). With Esperta Health's program we can reduce amputations by focusing on healing the wound effectively so health issues such as infections and other complications do not get out of control and result in an amputation. https://espertahealth.com/ #medicareadvantage #woundcare #woundhealing #woundmanagement
