You learn to drive after you’ve passed your driving test 🚗. I can’t remember if it was my mum or dad that said this, but when I reflect back, it’s very correct and acceptable. So why is this acceptable to driving and not our careers? Why do we expect every person to be perfect at there job without learning from mistakes as they go? Imagine this, you in a line at a roundabout, you pull off and then realise your in the wrong lane, you either go all the way back around or cut someone up on the roundabout - moral of the story, next time it’s unlikely you’ll be in the wrong lane, because you learnt. Everyday we are learning and developing. So remember this is ok, it’s ok to learn to drive after passing your test, take some time for your own development, hit that open road with a good playlist and enjoy the journey. 🙌🏻 #development #selfdevelopment #personaldevelopment #recruitment #recruitmentlife

If at first you don’t succeed? 💭⭐️ What about after fifty nine tries? ❗️ Thankfully sixty times was the charm for one learner driver, after sixty hours and £1380 of investment. ⭐️ The drivers theory test is understandably a tough one, you can get at most seven of the fifty questions wrong and pass. It also has to be passed before the practical can be taken. 📚 Considering how much quicker driving to a potential workplace can be, expanding where you can look for your right position. Making the investment to learn how to drive could help you find the job you want to succeed in. College days are meant for growth, but they can also be full of unexpected challenges. During our third year in Institute of Engineering & Management (IEM), a close friend missed his important semester exam because his driver was late. To make matters worse, these exams fell during the mid-semester period when job interviews and placements were in full swing. Witnessing the chaos and unprofessionalism prevalent in the unorganised driver service sector sparked an idea in us. We were determined to develop a solution that would address the recurring issue of untrustworthy drivers and their disruptive behaviour. That is when Drivers4Me was born. I knew we needed to fill the void by providing a dependable, on-time driver service that prioritised professionalism and customer satisfaction. We poured our energy and resources into building a platform that would transform people's transportation experiences, with the goal of revolutionising the industry. I share my journey to inspire others as I reflect on those transformative times. Forget future it's been non-linear since the turn of the digital century and in order to support life-long learning children will need to be "Digitally Literate" in order to participate in learning in the first place............ 🚀 Embarking on a Journey in Tech? Let's Talk Dunning-Kruger Effect! 🚀 Starting a new role in tech can feel like a rollercoaster of confidence. Fresh out of college with CS or IT degrees, we're often brimming with readiness to tackle any challenge. Yet, entering the workforce can quickly bring us back to earth. The Dunning-Kruger effect—a cognitive bias where individuals overestimate their abilities—hits hard, especially for us new software engineers. Initially, we might feel invincible, fully equipped with knowledge. But the reality of the job soon reveals the vastness of what we have yet to learn. This journey from high confidence, through a dip upon facing real-world challenges, to potentially feeling anxiety, is a normal part of growth. As we navigate these challenges and learn from them, our confidence rebuilds, now more robust and rooted in genuine experience and knowledge. I've personally navigated this path when I began working on internal software and automations at Vision Aid India over a year and a half ago. My journey continued at IT Windsor, offering immense learning and growth opportunities. Each project humbles me, yet it's this relentless pursuit of knowledge that fuels my growth. I know so many computer engineers who don’t code So many coders who are not computer engineers So many mechanical engineers who don’t build So many CAs who left accounting So many MBAs who are content creators So what? New age careers are ever evolving. Degrees shouldn’t restrain you. This is why I ask you to focus on skills rather than degrees. Focus on foundation rather than specialization. Focus on your own strengths rather than trends. Learn skills that you would use even if the knowledge or curriculum does not get used anymore. My work at 24NorthStar is inspired by same philosophy. Today is Engineers Day - A tribute to the masterful Engineer and Human Being Sir M.V :) And I am also an Engineer :) (I don't know with what tone you are reading this - With Engineers all tones are accepted. We are diversity personified) Truth is I didn't enjoy the myriad subjects plonked down our throats that we eliminated out of our bottoms end of each semester. But I have always enjoyed a challenge, how things work, Why is this even working, enjoyed the epic failures. Marvelled at some of the concepts and also in my own found a different calling altogether... I used to work at Bosch, an automotive giant. One of the thousands of Engineers working on some path breaking tech... I am a Proud Engineer, A proud software developer! Billions of ECUs that get produced in the ABS, ESP and more domains are mandatorily tested by software code that I have designed, tested and delivered... Just thinking about it gives me a sense of joy and satisfaction! was it easy? nope. was it worth it? Hell yeah. does it impact lives? You bet! Today we will get to hear memes, questions of are we really Engineers? What have we done that is comparable to Sir MV! On the way from the airport to visit one of our kids in college, an Uber driver shared with me the importance of talking with my kids about focusing on classes that can immediately translate into a job after college. No exceptions. He went on to say that time is the most valuable asset we have and it should not be wasted. Once it's gone you can't get it back. Taking classes without a clear return on investment is a waste of time (direct quote). He spoke rather passionately so I decided listening was my best of course of action. That night at dinner with our college kid we were, naturally, talking about school. He asked me what I thought the career difference would be between a Business major with a Biology minor versus a Biology major with a Business minor. My answer: ZERO. Our conversation continued and I explained my rationale. When he is done with school, his career will likely take a few twists and turns. In those twists and turns is where he will be doing a lot of real-world learning. For his college experience, I thought it a better use of time to take advantage of the opportunity to learn purely for the sake of learning. Take some biology classes. Take some ancient history classes. Get involved on campus. Check out study abroad options. Let curiosity be your guide. Curiosity might be one of the most underrated qualities. Curious people or "learners" are SO much more interesting than "knowers". Throw in qualities like being a good teammate, being reliable and not taking yourself too seriously and ANY company will want you part of their organization. No matter your major. That Uber driver had it sorta right...time is definitely a valuable asset. We literally have less of it with each day that passes. All the more important to spend your college time learning and exploring what is interesting to you. Picking majors and classes based on the belief that doing so will land you the job with the highest return on investment...now, that is the real waste of time. #curiosity #exploration #learntolearn #uberconversations
