NATIONAL STATISTICS On average, nearly 20 people per minute are physically abused by an intimate partner in the United States. During one year, this equates to more than 10 million women and men. Fifty percent of battered women who are employed are harassed at work by their abusive partners. Approximately four million referrals for alleged maltreatment are made to child protective agencies each year. Researchers have estimated that between 3.3 million and 10 million children are exposed to adult domestic violence each year. Domestic violence knows, no socio-economic boundaries.
