🚤 NY Boaters: Know Your Right of Way Rules! 🌊 As boating season kicks into high gear, it's essential to remember New York State's right of way regulations to ensure safety and smooth sailing on the water. Here are some key points to keep in mind: Meeting Head-On: Both vessels should alter course to starboard (right) and pass port-to-port (left). Crossing Paths: The vessel on the starboard (right) side has the right of way. The vessel on the port (left) side must give way. Overtaking: The overtaking vessel must keep clear of the vessel being overtaken. Pass on either side but ensure it's safe and clear. Sailboats vs. Powerboats: Sailboats under sail have the right of way over power-driven vessels, except when the sailboat is overtaking another vessel. Narrow Channels: Vessels navigating a narrow channel must keep to the starboard side. Vessels less than 20 meters or sailing vessels should not impede the passage of larger vessels that can navigate only within the channel. Here is more information about Knowing Your Right of Way Rules: https://lnkd.in/ezuvHStk Stay safe and courteous on the water. Happy boating! 🚤⚓️🌞 #BoatingSafety #NYBoating #RightOfWay #StaySafe #livelifewevegotthis

This week we're on the letter "J" in the #NauticalTerms. Here are a few examples. 🟠 #Jib: A type of foresail on a sailing yacht that is forward of the mast. The jib plays a crucial role in controlling the aerodynamics of the yacht and its overall sailing performance. 🟠 #Jibe (or Gybe): A sailing maneuver where the yacht changes its course by turning downwind, bringing the stern of the boat through the wind. It's a common maneuver when sailing downwind. 🟠 #Jib Halyard: The line or rope used to raise and lower the jib sail on a sailing yacht. It's a critical part of sail control. 🟠 #Jackstay: A line or wire stretching along the length of the yacht, often on the deck, to which sailors can attach safety lines. Jackstays enhance safety by providing secure points for crew members to clip onto when moving around the boat. These terms are commonly used in the context of sailing yachts and are essential for understanding and operating these vessels effectively. #MostSailing #sailing #sail #sailboat #saillife #sailinglife #sailinglove #travelling #nauticalterms
