Overall, the points raised are valid. Consider, however, that Mottos are more powerful, pervasive and enduring statements of Purpose than Mission statements tend to be (in any organization). In my experiences, most of the body on the ground do not recall or reference the Mission Statement, only the specific Mission-at-Hand. The Motto, however, has a powerful life and reverberates with that life across all circumstances. But with great respect for all of these viewpoints, I'm neither suspect of nor awash with irrational exuberance about the change. Why? Because this now depends upon what the USArmy (as well as other military academies) DO with these statements. The 30 years track records have been, at best, spotty -- and I mean that absolutely independent of influences of political preferences. Please understand that the same is now so for all forms of current American organizations. So, Stay Courageous, Stay Involved, Stay Supportive. The fact that this discussion is taking place indicates three powerful factors: (1) We are thinking about the Country we value, (2) we care...Deeply, and (3) We aren't dead yet! Keep in mind that those under 35 have an incredibly different perspective. How do we reach them?!

Respect between generations-an unspoken promise of continuity. A glimpse. A moment. A single salute exchanged between a young child and a stalwart soldier. It's not just a courteous gesture; it's a profound symbol. A powerful symbol of inspiration and honor. we see more than respect. We see the soldier's legacy secured in the hands of the next generation. We see the boy, inspired by the soldier's valor, ready to accept the call to service. Our brave soldiers are not just defenders but mentors, instilling the spirit to serve the nation in the hearts of our youth.  We are the guardians of this legacy.  Our responsibility is to foster an environment where such heroism can thrive. We must honor our soldiers by playing our part, by creating a world where the torch can be passed safely. Whether it's extending a helping hand to a veteran, supporting military families, or simply fostering a culture of respect for our armed forces, we can make a difference. Folks... "Duty, Honor, Country" is now, still is, and has always been West Point's MOTTO. It was incorporated into the mission statement in 1998. It probably should NOT have been, because mottos and values do not describe what an organization DOES. The mission statement has been re-written to properly describe what West Point DOES: "Build, Educate, Train, and Inspire the Corps of Cadets to be commissioned leaders of character, with the explicit purpose of being committed to the Army Values and Ready for a lifetime of service." Does anyone seriously have an issue with this? "Duty, Honor, Country" have not gone away. Army Values have not gone away... they are the same ones beaten into my year group way back in the 1980s. Have a look at the graphic here. The Army motto, mission statement, and values are consistent and support each other. So does West Point's motto and new mission statement, along with the Army values that also apply to the Corps of Cadets. (No posthumous names..). During 'Period of Darkness' #11June2008 the #SOTG conducted #OP #RATTEY. #Reginald #Roy #R3. This was a #TaskGroup level (#SAS + #Cdo #combat #teams) #directaction #heliborne #Assault ('land on the objectives') into a #previously #impenetrable terrorist sanctuary to #killcapture designated 'high level targets' #HVTs. = #misogynistic #sexualpredators and #pedophiles. 👊 The outcome was described as 'the largest and #mostsuccessful air assault #ever conducted by Australian Special Forces' - and #remainsso to this day. One of the medieval battles known for its significant use of iron weapons is the Battle of Agincourt, which took place on October 25, 1415, during the Hundred Years' War between England and France. The English army, led by King Henry V, faced off against a much larger French force commanded by Charles d'Albret, Constable of France. The English army, consisting primarily of longbowmen supported by infantry and a small contingent of knights, utilized iron weapons such as longswords, daggers, and armor. However, the most iconic iron weapon used by the English forces at Agincourt was the longbow. The English longbowmen played a crucial role in the battle, unleashing volleys of arrows that devastated the French ranks. On the French side, while iron weapons were also prevalent, including swords, spears, and armor, the knights and men-at-arms relied heavily on cavalry charges and hand-to-hand combat. However, the muddy battlefield and the devastating barrage of English arrows proved challenging for the heavily armored French knights, leading to a decisive victory for the English despite being vastly outnumbered.
