Clean Energy Transition Institute's Net-Zero Northwest Workforce analysis offers regional policymakers direction for how employment would shift over time as the region moves toward attaining a net-zero emissions goal by 2050. While fossil fuel-related jobs would decline, on balance net energy jobs in the Northwest would grow by 17% between 2021 and 2030. The question for the region’s stakeholders is how to manage the transition to clean energy in such a way that as many people as possible benefit, either by having access to jobs that were previously foreclosed or by receiving training that would enable them to learn new skills and maintain a good standard of living. For my MI, OH, CO and OR friends here are some fact sheets to help you while you continue to advocate for investments in workforce training dollars associated with #cleanenergy and #infrastructure jobs.

If you think that sustainable energy is only a trend and one that will halt existence if the White House shifts back to Red in the 2024 election, I'd argue that you are incredibly mistaken. Yes, as of today, most sustainable energy is being *implemented* in Blue states because of the higher return on cost; however, ask yourself who is manufacturing — now or in the future — these sustainable products? Let’s follow the money. Sustainable energy manufacturing — that which is related to solar or electric vehicle manufacturing — are currently under construction in many Red-governed states. According to the U.S. Energy & Employment Jobs Report (USEER), when measuring the percentage increase in green jobs between 2021 to 2022, West Virginia was highest with 19.3%. Oklahoma trailed behind it with a 9% year-over-year increase. These statistics, however, do not account for future job growth and the new manufacturing facilities currently under construction. Specifically for electric vehicles, Georgia is underway with $14b in new construction; Indiana with $8b; and Tennessee with over $6b in new construction (ConstructionDive). A few solar-specific projects include QCells’ $2.5b project in Dalton, GA; First Solar’s $900m plant in Lawrence County, AL [independent Governor]; Canadian Solar’s $800m project in Jeffersonville, IN; and Silfab’s $150m plant in York County, SC (SolarReviews). Red Governors are seeing the impact that the sustainable energy movement is bringing to their states. Workers in #Massachusetts can help the state meet its ambitious #climate goals with 29,700 new full-time jobs, made possible by new local resources like the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center and federal initiatives like President Joe Biden's Clean Energy Corps. National Grid's Future Grid plan alone is set to create 12,600 new jobs and generate $1.6 billion in economic output by 2035, making the state a leader in #cleanenergy jobs and economic growth.

Each one of the blue tiles in my very low quality picture is a huge energy transition project in or nearby the Hunter Region. At today's Business Hunter Energy & Resources lunch, EnergyCo's Executive Director, Planning & Communities, Mike Young gave a brief overview across these projects: - Hunter Transmission Project - Hunter-Central Coast REZ - Waratah Super Battery - New England REZ Transmission Project Putting aside the significant impact these projects will have on our energy transition, the sheer amount of skills and labour that is required for the success of these projects is enormous. The Hunter Transmission Project will need a workforce of 400-500 alone. Whilst much of this immediate demand will be filled by people moving from one organisation to another, we also need to look at how we engage the kids currently sitting in schools to be the future leaders of these projects down the track. #energyjobs #energytransition #hunterregion

Grab your snacks, turn up the tunes, and buckle up! 🌐 **The West Coast:** Explore mature prescriptive programs from the Energy Trust of Oregon on the West Coast. While California navigates challenges, opportunities arise for retrofit and new HVAC projects. 🌐 **Rocky Mountains:** States like Arizona, Montana, New Mexico, and Utah present good incentives. Xcel offers amazing rebates in Colorado for LED installation, and energy incentive dollars are evenly spread across lighting and HVAC. 🌐 **The Midwest:** Michigan's major utilities offer incentives at 8-10 cents per kWh saved, up to 75% of the incremental cost, with retroactive rebates available. Operators, take note of decent utility incentive programs in Missouri, Illinois, and Oklahoma. 🌐 **The Northeast:** Connecticut leads the way with incentives of 40 cents per kWh saved, offering up to 95% of the incremental cost. Vermont, New York, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island also offer outstanding programs, but be forewarned that they can be tough sledding. Maine wins best in class for its customer-friendly prescriptive programs. 🌐 **The Mid-Atlantic:** New Jersey growers enjoy flat incentives for DLC-listed LEDs, while Maryland companies can receive up to 20 cents per kWh saved and up to 50% off energy-efficient technology. Delaware is quirky, as always, with its government-run program that caps at 30% project costs. 🌐 **The Southeast:** Navigating the Southeast? Be aware that most states lack high-paying incentive programs. Alabama, Florida, and Georgia face challenges with poor energy efficiency incentive programs.
