I’m thrilled to present to you 40 Acres and a Lie, a collaborative project from the Center for Public Integrity and the Center for Investigative Reporting that uncovers a long lost history of America’s failed attempt at reparations for slavery. Reporters identified 1,250 formerly enslaved Black Americans who were pledged land as reparations—only to have it seized back: https://lnkd.in/dEiWqs4g Truly incredible work from reporters Alexia Fernández Campbell, April Simpson, Pratheek Rebala who spent more than two years on this investigation. Any newsroom would be lucky to have them, so check out more of their work!

Necessary story, especially when the federal government was giving away land out west to homesteaders while breaking the promise.

I am excited to read this project. I was on the board of Fund for Investigative Journalism when we voted to support this investigation. This issue is a huge part of the wealth gap that currently exists today in America.
