Dont sign this petition. Today there are about 440 nuclear power reactors operating in 32 countries plus Taiwan, with a combined capacity of about 390 GWe. In 2022 these provided 2545 TWh, about 10% of the world's electricity. This agreement sets these 32 countries to raise their holdings to 1320 plants. Note there are 195 countries in the world today. Estimated LCOE for new nuclear plants built in the near future are about two times higher than estimates for wind and about three times higher than solar. Final construction costs for U.S. nuclear plants have typically been 2 to 3 times higher than original estimates. The U.S. annually accumulates about 2,000 mt of spent fuel. Now will be up 3 times that. In essence that is 1320 fission plants in only 32 countries and those countries will need to store 192000 mt of waste per year, that is a whopping increase in storage of toxic waste, therefore a huge increase in accident projections. Dont sign this petition. On November 10, 75 US-based companies and universities sent a letter to the Senate and House Appropriations Committees, urging an increase in fusion energy funding. Failure to consider fusion growth and the replacement of fission with fusion, so it would seem wise at COP28 UAE to start the discussion on world fusion development in, Which Nuclear Fission or fusion will exist in the future. Ontario should take note before committing to the fission build. As much as fission tries to greenwash the waste, it is waste like plastic waste it will eventually work its way into your life or the lives of the future, like fossil fuel good idea at the time until it poisoned the world Fission is the same. The only way out is to develop fusion and renewables. The cost will be painful until they achieve it. So put your money and time into fusion development, not increasing the toxic radioactive waste that only 17% of the world will get energy and weapons. It would be better if there were no fission power plants or fission bombs. Dont sign this petition if you don't want these. Make the earth safer and cleaner by. The antipodeans Sir Ernest Rutherford "father of nuclear physics" and Sir Mark Oliphant, "Opposer of the fission bomb" were the first experimental demonstrators of nuclear fusion. Why then are the Australian Government and the Federal Opposition not working to get it developed in Australia and bring it back home? New Zealand has, so why not Australia? In its fusion conference report in 2023, the IAEA postulated that all International nuclear (Fission) Laws like the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty do not consider fusion, so it seems it can be built in Australia now. 13. Fusion is also being developed "Small Modular Fusion Reactors" like Zap Energy and Avalanche Energy. 14. HB11 and the UNSW Tokamak project have positioned Australia prominently in the trillion-dollar international fusion industry. Instead of relying on fission with a limited lifetime, wouldn't it be preferable to support Australian renewables, batteries, and hydrogen energy generators and back them up with a fusion power plant? This would eliminate the traditional waste problem while still providing medical isotopes and advancements in medical technology like MRIs.
