Concours Mondial de Bruxelles comes to Guanajuato, Mexico In a few days Mexico will host the 31st Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, the event will take place from 7 to 9 June in the city of Leon in the colorful state of Guanajuato, cradle of Mexican national independence, as well as the birthplace of the great painter-muralist Diego Rivera . It is the first time that the CMB lands in American lands even if the state of Guanajuato has already hosted important international events related to wine (2017,2021,2022). Is Wine Collecting Still in Vogue? 🍇 Living in beautiful Barcelona, I've often pondered the allure of wine collecting and whether it's still a passion shared by many. Spain's rich viticultural history and diverse wine regions have always fascinated me, and I can't help but wonder if there's a community of fellow wine enthusiasts here who appreciate the finer tastes in life. Over the years, I've curated a collection of luxurious wines that have stories to tell and memories to create. However, I've yet to discover a close-knit group of like-minded wine lovers in the city. 🥂 So, I pose this question to my fellow Barcelona residents and wine enthusiasts: Do you collect wine, or do you know of others who do? 🍾 What motivates you to collect? Reflections on My First Wine Tasting in Bilbao: Lessons Learned Organizing my first wine tasting in Bilbao was exciting but came with its share of challenges: 1. Finding Guests: It was tough to get people to come because I'm new here and not many speak Russian. Note to self: Use local networks and social media, team up with local businesses and expand to English speakers (My Spanish is still not perfect enough for me to host tastings in this language but I’m working on it) 2. Finding Wines: I had to scramble to find wines because the tasting was quite spontaneous. Tip? Plan in advance, order online and build relationships with local wine sellers. 3. Rare Wines: Getting rare rose txakoli was super hard even in Bilbao because it's made in small amounts and was off-season. Next time, I'll prepare better and plan ahead. 4. Money Matters: I didn't make much profit this time. Lesson? Double-check costs and pricing for future events. 5. Timing Troubles: I didn't realize it was a holiday weekend, so fewer people came. Remember to check local holidays next time. I’m still adjusting to local festivities and traditions. All in all, I think doing at least something is better than not doing it at all. We all should start somewhere. #Vermouth: Something more than a drink 🍸 Today we would like to share a report from the gastronomic magazine Vinos y Restaurantes that portrays the great moment that the vermouth sector is experiencing and gives the example of PERUCCHI 1876. The article explains that this traditional drink "is more fashionable than ever", because "we are living a moment of renaissance in the appreciation of the artisanal and the authentic" and the data support it. According to the recent Nielsen IQ report on Market Trends in the Hospitality industry, vermouth consumption has increased by 9% in the last year in Spain. The data is especially relevant if we consider that in the same period, the demand in the general consumption of drinks outside the home fell by 1.4%, mainly due to the rise in prices in the on-trade. As the report states, this behaviour can be explained by the fact that "one of the consumption moments that benefited the most, during last year, was the aperitif" and 55% of Spaniards admit that they enjoy this moment on weekends, turning the vermouth into an almost sacred ritual that is shared with friends and family. Vermouth fever is also driven by the "psychology of premiumization" as consumers are now looking for authentic, high-quality experiences, which has led to a growing demand for exclusive, artisanal vermouths such as PERUCCHI 1876.
