Just read this Verge article talking about how caregivers are using existing smart assistant technologies for #AgingAtHome https://lnkd.in/e7wHbMRF I'm also reminded of the Kinect that Microsoft made for video games, but imagine that motion sensing capability being put to use as you describe - to detect falls, for example. https://lnkd.in/eRNf27W6
The prospects for Hospital at Home are promising, but some key challenges prevent the scalability and adoption -- analytical, structural, conflicts with incentives across stakeholders, and privacy among them. In today's Health Populi blog, I discuss a new review article in Nature Portfolio NPJ digital medicine on The hospital at home in the USA -- current status and future prospects. Authors Eric Topol, MD Jay Pandit Bruce Leff and Jeff Pawelek lay out the need for rigorous evaluation of remote monitoring and wearable tech already being deployed for patients engaging in acute care at home. Some of that evidence is being proven out via Best Buy Health, discussed by Deborah Di Sanzo in a webinar yesterday tag-teaming with Varda Shalev of Team8 discussing "Care at Home Transformed." BBH is collaborating with over two dozen health systems across the care continuum at home for wellness, aging, and acute care. Some great lessons were shared by these two leaders in #digitalhealth and #healthcare, with thanks to Amir Lewkowicz for hosting the session. cc Sandeep Pulim M.D. pondering our F2F discussion at #CES2024 in the Samsung Electronics Health Home (cc L. 🏔️ Scaling the Digital Mountain: Empowering Healthcare Professionals 🏥 Digital technologies are heralded as the architects of healthcare's future. The global digital health market, valued at US$211 billion in 2022, is projected to expand at a compound annual growth rate of 18.6% from 2023 to 2030. Today, technology acts as a bridge, elevating patient awareness about their health conditions and thereby supporting adherence to medical guidance. More significantly, it broadens the reach and influence of healthcare professionals, facilitating care continuity that transcends the confines of clinics and hospitals. Such advancements empower doctors to amplify their caregiving capabilities, providing personalized, continuous support while concentrating their expertise on the most pressing needs. This dynamic fusion of technology and medical acumen is forging a more efficient healthcare system, where doctors manage a wider patient base without compromising care quality and focus on what they do best: treating patients. Central to this fusion are hub locations, indispensable to both healthcare and the broader life sciences field. Ursula Costa highlights how the Swiss city of Basel is propelling digital innovation, creating a nurturing environment for healthtech pioneers. 🚀 Hope Care: Pioneering Alongside Healthcare Professionals Emerging as a winner of the DayOne Digital Health 4.0 Accelerator in 2022, Hope Care embodies the alliance between technology and healthcare. The recent acquisition of the EU MDR Class IIb certification for their HCAlert platform underscores Hope Care's human-centric approach to Remote Patient Monitoring (RPM), with healthcare professionals as key players in their systems. Our founder, Jose Paulo Carvalho, highlights the collaborative core of Hope Care’s mission: "Harnessing digital technology, we aim to augment healthcare professionals' capabilities, enabling comprehensive monitoring of chronic conditions from a patient's home. This initiative is geared towards strengthening the doctor-patient bond, ensuring continuous, tailored care that evolves with patient needs." The efficacy of HC Alert in reducing hospital admissions due to chronic illnesses by 55% and cutting down hospitalization days by 45% showcases the tangible advantages of this technology-enhanced healthcare approach, mitigating public health services' burden while extending and intensifying medical professionals' reach and effectiveness. As we forge ahead in the digital healthcare domain, Hope Care's trajectory remains a beacon of innovation, demonstrating the boundless potential when technology and healthcare expertise unite in harmony.
