Spent yesterday at the IMH Leadership Retreat well-organised by the Corporate Department. Met some new colleagues and learnt about 4 Disciplines of Execution and Outward Mindset. It’s always good to step back from routine and gain a fresh perspective. (Photo courtesy Anjali Viknesh) Mythily Subramaniam Institute of Mental Health #healthcareleadership #leadershipretreat

I found this article very interesting! While the tips shared are all accurate, it assumes a level of skill and mental stability that I do NOT see in the average manager. Maybe things are different in GB (where the authors are from) but here in the US, I just don't see this happening but I would LOVE to see leadership training include these skills. Would love to hear your thoughts! ~As a manager - do you feel equipped to implement these strategies? ~Would you say your manager is equipped to use these skills? ~Does the culture of your company offer an environment where these skills could be utilized with full support of top leadership? Sound off below...

Workplace Productivity: Mental Health, Mentorship and Emotional Support Summary: By incorporating mentorship and emotional support, and using practical techniques to quiet the mind and focus, employees can achieve higher satisfaction and productivity at work. Benefits of Mentorship: 1. Enhances job performance and speeds up skill acquisition. Mentees are promoted five times more often than non-mentees (Sun Microsystems). 2. Offers guidance on career paths and growth opportunities. 25% of mentees experience salary-grade changes, compared to 5% of non-mentees (Gartner). 3. Reduces turnover rates by 72% for mentees and 69% for mentors (Mentoring.org). Importance of Emotional Support: 1. Mental Health: Reduces stress and anxiety, leading to higher job satisfaction (91% of supported employees) (APA). 2. Productivity: Boosts motivation and engagement, creating a positive work environment (Forbes). 3. Team Cohesion: Enhances trust and teamwork, leading to better collaboration (Journal of Environmental Psychology). Quieting the Mind and Focusing on Your Purpose: 1. Mindfulness Meditation: - Practice: Spend 5-10 minutes daily on mindfulness meditation. - Effectiveness: Reduces stress and improves focus. Regular practice decreases amygdala volume and increases prefrontal cortex activity (Psychology Today). 2. Goal Setting: - Practice: Use SMART criteria (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-bound) for clear goals. - Effectiveness: Provides direction and purpose. 14% with goals are 10 times more successful; 3% with written goals are 3 times more successful (Harvard Business). 3. Prioritization and Time Management: - Practice: Use the Eisenhower Matrix to prioritize tasks. Allocate specific time for high-priority tasks. - Effectiveness: Ensures important work gets done. Good time managers are significantly more productive (Journal of Applied Psychology). 4. Breaks and Physical Activity: - Practice: Take regular breaks (e.g., Pomodoro Technique: 25 minutes work, 5 minutes break). Incorporate physical activities like walking or stretching. - Effectiveness: Refreshes mind and body, maintaining productivity. Physical activity enhances concentration and memory (Journal of Environmental Psychology). References 1. Sun Microsystems Study on Mentorship: https://lnkd.in/ggp3t9pZ 2. Certified Wellness Practitioner by National Wellness Institute & Certified Life Coach. Speaker & Educator
Workplace wellness programs work when 1 - the program is tailored to the unique needs of the employees involved. 2 - it’s not “assigned” to one person or team to change culture. 3 - It’s about helping people feel well enough to be their best in their environment, whatever that environment is. We’ve tried promoting an approach of not letting workplace stressors (people, workloads, culture) affect us at home and vice versa, leaving our home stressors at the door. But this has gotten more and more difficult for us. And I think rightfully so as we live 50% of our time at work for those who work full time. Separating our two worlds as if it is a switch to be turned off and on is unrealistic. Our wellbeing is the very essence of our being, and we are beings at work and at home. Its time to bridge the two. “Today, workers demand more than just a paycheck — It’s not just about ticking off boxes, it’s about creating a culture where employees feel empowered to prioritize self-care without fear of repercussions” The issue is no longer a negligible one. #mentalhealthatwork #mentalhealthmatters #wellness #wellbeing #employeewellbeing

Founder of Reloveution | Compassion Catalyst | Leadership Activator | Facilitator of Magical Human Experiences at Work and Beyond
Leadership is an emotionally laden experience. Good emotions. Unpleasant emotions. Intense and draining emotions. Pleasant and energizing emotions. Stemming from: ➡Navigating interpersonal dynamics ➡Mitigating conflict ➡Managing change and ambiguity ➡Making decisions ➡Handling crises and setbacks ➡Navigating the big emotions of others ➡Mentoring/coaching/developing others ➡Dismantling injustice ➡Balancing one's own work, thought, and feeling load It's all part of the job and it's A LOT. All together, the emotional demands of leadership can take a real toll on mental health. ESPECIALLY when we don't have strategies, tools, and frameworks for navigating the complexities. In our summer community learning cohort, we will explore leadership through the lens of emotions, unpack the emotional labor of leadership, and teach strategies and frameworks for authentically and effectively managing the emotions of self, supporting the emotions of others, fostering resilience (in a non icky way), and cultivating an authentic leadership presence that does not cause burnout or necessitate self-sacrifice. Sound like something you need? Enrollment is open! Registration is on a sliding scale! You're invited and you belong <3 Check it out: https://lnkd.in/dsDMG7aM

Visionary CEO with a notable leadership prowess overseeing the culture and operations of non-profit agencies.
A good read to remind us to look at the whole person and it all starts with "Know Thyself". As a proponent of using Emotional Intelligence in the workplace I can help but think how CHADS Coalition for Mental Health SEW Program helps our next generation of workers with understanding their own self-awareness, social awareness and responsible decision making. The earlier the better with intervention and education!

I’ve been doing some research recently on human factors and the impact of low level background noise on productivity and mental health. I came across this great article. It includes a range of suggestions on reducing unwanted noise. My favourite is how the sound absorbing quality of plants can be utilised to soak up sound. The added benefit of using plants is their positive impact on air quality and the mental health benefits of bringing nature into work spaces. https://lnkd.in/gyEPDVND https://lnkd.in/gHE6QAqe #mentalhealth #humanfactors #workhealthandsafety
