Raise your hand if you didn't see this coming. 🖐 Here's my educated guess on what this means: 1) MR and CV technology has become commodified, so the value of keeping it private is low. 2) Getting this established as a beachhead for new engineers and scientists entering the field pulls innovation time and resources away from competitor platforms. 3) Meta believes the combined strength of their hardware, content, and publishing deals can prevent any viable competitors from using this as a leg up. I'm looking forward to reading other opinions on this!

My favorite price is 'FREE', especially when it's something I want. If you are a school or parent and have a Quest 2 or 3, then download VXRLabs for free (LOTS of content)! It's like TV, VictoryXR has three levels: Free, basic subscription and premium channels. But, there's nothing wrong with the free level, especially if you want students/children to do more than game on their headset..am I right, or am I right! Just search Meta's App Labs Store for: VXRLabs.

🌍 Google Maps is transforming into an AR platform — at the I/O 2024 conference, the launch of AR in Maps was announced! This is super exciting — Google alone has scans of lots of cities across the planet and the VPS Geospatial system, which allows content to be linked to geo-coordinates or even buildings. The closest AR+VPS competitors, Snapchat and Niantic, only cover the centers of a few big cities. Currently, Geospatial works in Unity (complicated, requires creating an app and users downloading it), AR Core for Android (same issue), or Adobe Aero (works poorly, though no download is needed). Soon, all this will work in the Google Maps app and web version on all platforms (iOS and Android). You just need to be near the desired location, and Maps will offer to activate AR. The program will be launched in a six-month test phase in Singapore and Paris, and later worldwide. I still have many questions about content and moderation though. If 100 experiences are uploaded to the Eiffel Tower, which one will activate? Will all of them be offered? In what order? And who will moderate a local store in a provincial town?
