Fast fashion disempowers women. Sustainable, ethical apparel supports them. Around the globe, women dominate the workforce of the garment factory industry. Unfortunately, the working environment for many of them includes pervasively low wages, untenable hours, sexual harassment and violence and hazardous health conditions. Most managers in factories are men who hire women with a widespread belief that women are more docile and are willing to work longer hours for little pay. In essence cheap clothes mentally and physically exploit women and engulf generations of women into a cycle of poverty. At Remake, we hope to inspire all women within the fashion industry to stretch their advocacy muscles and take part in our global movement to achieve tangible change. This is the work we do every single day, and our Remake community propels us forward."

What would fashion look like if women were in charge? This was a brilliant discussion hosted by Vogue Business. The conversation touched on the point that there should be diversity in fashion houses and, in particular, why we do need more women at the top. They know how to design for bodies that change every month, throughout the month, because this is something that women innately understand. The C-Suite also needs to have more empathy and tenderness – there needs to be openness to talking about women’s issues (even if – or, especially if - it makes people uncomfortable), recognising them, finding solutions and then proactively acting on them. This is the way to make change happen within the industry. 📢 ATTENTION: Women and Ladies of Linked In!! Which one do you prefer? "Women" or "Ladies" - does it even matter? What would you refer to yourself as? With the huge drive for women's tailored workwear, specifically made to fit women and ladies being hot topic for us at the moment... The different terminology being used this week alone across my meetings and conversations. Terminology used on manufacturers listings and websites, as well as general chit chat outside of the industry is making me curious... In other areas, high profile football clubs such as Manchester City have made name changes in recent years from 'Ladies Football Team' to 'Manchester City Women.' Reasoning coming from the connotations surrounding the word 'Lady' being petite, feminine, gentle etc. And this not reflecting what the Women/Football clubs wish to represent. Are these feelings shared amongst the wider community? Is 'lady' becoming old fashioned terminology? Or does it accurately reflect you? Lady (according to google) can also be defined as 'a woman of good social position' and a polite way of referring to a woman. We supply workwear to a wide range of industries, from construction and engineering to Nursery/Educational settings. Some suppliers call it women's workwear and others ladies. The perfectionist in me would like to align the two on our website and within our company - but which one do we go with? What are your thoughts? Do you have a preference?
