Don’t forget the DATA! Many of you know I have a deep background in US Army Aviation, but recently, I have also started spending more time with the USMC, USN, and USAF. This week, I spent a lot of time with the USAF and understanding their challenges and where they are headed. Yes, architectures certainly matter, open systems absolutely matter, digitallly transforming matters, but what we can’t lose sight of is the data. Without understanding the data, we will just end up with a new set of disparate architectures and models that 90% of people get lost in. (Ok, over emphasizing to make a point 😁). I think that one of the best things the services can do as a step towards alignment is to take specific domains and establish joint specific domain data models. #data #mosa #architecture #digitalengineering #opensystems

It’s time for TEM 11! The excitement is building in Savannah, Ga., as more than 1,300 attendees gather to attend the Technical Exchange Meeting (TEM) 11 over the next two days. Hosted by the Army’s PEO C3T and Network-CFT, this year’s conference will focus on technology, people, and processes as the Army transforms the network for #Army2030 and beyond. Based on feedback from previous TEMs, this year's TEM will include topical technical tracks and small-breakout sessions to help industry align their research and development efforts for near-term and longer-term Army network requirements. More to come this week with critical messages from leaders on the Army’s network transformation and C2 warfighting systems, informed by Soldier experimentation and fielding across the force. #TEM11

Artificial intelligence is a hot topic today at AFCEA International #TechNetCyber. While many are talking about what #AI can do for us - and it's certainly a powerful tool - US Army Col. Richard Leach, DISA Intelligence director, has his eyes on how our adversaries can use it against us. Continuing to stay ahead of our adversaries is vital to carrying out the first strategic imperative of the DISA Next Strategy: operating and securing the DISA portion of the United States Department of Defense Information Network.

Of course the word is "more." When a military service is established in an anemic form as the Space Force was, unable to do more than it's predecessor organization mission, with no resources to "address the threat", then it's more than reasonable to ask for the resources and personnel to do so. $30 billion dollars is not "whopping" when comparing with the rest of the sister services, even the next smallest, the Marines. As argued by myself and others, the service was not created for service support duties alone, neither were the others like the Army or Navy. They're created to organize, train, and equip space FORCES, not just services, for deterrence and warfighting in, from, and to space. It cannot accomplish that mission yet. Army’s C2 Modernization: The Army is modernizing its command and control (C2) systems through a dual-track approach: a near-term “C2 fix” and a future-focused "C2 next." Integrated Tactical Network: Tactical radios are central to the Integrated Tactical Network (ITN), which provides communication capabilities to units, as demonstrated in the Joint Pacific Multinational Readiness Center exercise. Division-Centric Strategy: The shift from brigade-centric to division-centric operations is due to the need for more mobile systems and the ability to command and control over vast distances against sophisticated nation-states. Next-Generation Capabilities: The Army is testing new technologies and structures, like during Operation Lethal Eagle, to enhance battlefield lethality and situational awareness across echelons with more intuitive and lightweight equipment. 5th DoD GIS Practitioners in Hawaii Quarterly Meeting will be held at Fort Shafter on Oahu Island, and hosted by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) - Honolulu District (POH), on July 31, 2024. Save the Date! Purpose of Quarterly Meetings: 1. Identify DoD GIS practitioners throughout Hawaii. 2. Establish and maintain working relationships with other DoD GIS practitioners throughout Hawaii via in-person activities. 3. Streamline inter-agency efforts: (1) mitigate overlapping efforts, (2) encourage coordination and collaboration, (3) understand various agencies’ roles/responsibilities, (4) identify authoritative datasets, (5) etc. 4.
