I couldn’t help the people I wanted to in my job… The work was interesting and challenging. The team was fun to work alongside. I got paid well. But something didn’t feel right. I was helping the wealthy, stay wealthy. I wanted to help clients build wealth not just preserve it. I wanted to provide the strategies available to those with wealth, to those wanting to create wealth. In my last job that was tough. ⬆️ Service was priced high 🏙️ I wasn’t a key decision maker 👵 Marketing suited older clients 💰 Fees were based on wealth managed There was only one thing for it. Start my own business. MUVADO. → I wrote to my boss offering to resign immediately. → I gave up my salary and city lifestyle. → I wrote a business plan that was rejected by the FCA (they thought finding millennial clients wouldn’t work) → I wrote another business plan to get up and running. → I didn’t get my first client for 4 months. It wasn’t easy, but I wouldn’t change it. I love working with MUVADO members. I enjoy meetings rather than endure them and can’t wait to help more people on their way to financial independence. It all worked out in the end.

As we approach the end of 2023, I would like to reflect on some accomplishments from this year. This year, I surpassed my one year of working at Bankhometown. I started as a Float teller out of the Webster MA branch & transitioned to now being a Personal Banker out of the Thompson CT branch. In the role of float teller, I made many meaningful connections with not only my coworkers but the customers as well. I was able to utilize each person’s unique perspective and learn something new every day. I am honored & grateful to work alongside so many great leaders and intelligent people.  One new opportunity I was given was serving as the In-Branch Coach for 2 onboarding tellers. This allowed me to share my knowledge of procedures and personal advice on how to best succeed as a teller at Bankhometown. It also gave me the fresh perspective that every individual learns differently. Another benefit I reaped from this opportunity was gaining insight into possible other departments I may find myself growing into in the future, such as our Learning & Development department. Midway through the year, I received my promotion to Personal Banker. From the second I began my career with Bankhometown, I was eager to explore my potential within the banking industry. This promotion is the 1st step of many & I am thrilled to see how I can further assist our customers each day. One of the biggest things I love about being a Personal Banker is making recommendations to my customers that will benefit them & being able to follow them through till completion. Recently I have begun attending a handful of networking events, introducing myself to others as well as meeting the amazing people of NECT. This is something that I hope to do more of in 2024, in hopes of becoming more connected to the community I serve. My most recent achievement is becoming a notary public for Connecticut. As a notary, I perform acknowledgments & signature witnessing for the state of Connecticut. This is another way that I can not only serve my customers but my community as well. Furthermore, I have just completed my second Online Semester with Umass Lowell(CareerGPA: 3.28). After my time away from school due to Covid, I was nervous about returning. Managing a full-time job, online classes, & my personal life was no walk in the park but the result is what keeps me pushing. The support from those around me to never give up is irreplaceable & I am eternally grateful for that. I am excited to continue expanding my library of knowledge that will allow benefits for myself and those around me. This post is way overdue. 8 months ago I took a wild chance. I left a job and a company that I loved to try something totally new. I (somewhat) changed industries and took on completely different job responsibilities, jumping in with both feet into a sales role at a fintech after 12 years in loan operations. I thought the transition was going to be a piece of cake. Boy, was I wrong. These past 8 months have been both the most challenging and the most humbling months of my career. I’m extremely lucky not only to have a vital product offering for financial services, but to have amazing support from my CEO, Catherine (York) Powers, the brilliant team at Constant and of course my husband, David Riggs. Now that I have finally hit my stride in my new role, I want to share a few things I’ve learned along the way. 1. It’s not personal. If potential clients don’t get back to you, there’s probably a dozen reasons why that aren’t about you. Financial institutions are juggling so many balls at once – other initiatives, audits, mergers, regulatory changes – in addition to serving their members during the regular course of business! All you can do is continue to try to be helpful and available. 2. Give potential clients the opportunity to tell you yes! Don’t be reluctant to send that email or pick up the phone. If you don’t try, the answer is definitely no.  3. Not every interaction is about the sale. I get so much out of just meeting and getting to know people and their institutions. If they are interested in my product, great! If they’re not, that’s fine too! It’s rewarding to simply make connections. 4. Give it time. It’s ok to be scared. To feel uncomfortable. To be honest about those feelings. Every day that goes by, you’ll learn a little more. Get a little more comfortable. Chip away at the fear. Don’t give up. I’m continuing to grow every day. I can’t wait to share what I learn over the next 8 months. Cheers!

Some of you know my 1st role in Corporate America after the Associate Developemnt Program at Chase was as a dedicated customer service officer on the phones. That job was hard and truth be told I sometimes didn’t like it all that much. And I hated being yelled at by customers for errors that they knew I didn’t actually cause. That said, boy did I learn on that job….about how money moves in banking; about rapport and relationship building; and about servant leadership. Essentially the service role is focused on fixing things when they go wrong. And typically people are unhappy when their money is missing, or a flight is cancelled, or a phone is not working properly, etc. But I tell you what…the best service professionals regardless of industry, love, love, love their jobs. They are great problem solvers. The best service folks make a way out of no way and figure out how to help when help is almost impossible. They also grin and bear it when an unsatisfied customer decides to just be miserable. Today, I was taken right back to those couple of years as a CSR as I listened and watched stranded travelers unload on the service professionals who were simply there to try to make things right. You know what? No amount of yelling about how you’ve been inconvenienced, no amount of screaming you’re going to miss an important meeting, and no amount of sharing how important you are based on your status level is going to make things any better any faster. Do not shoot the messengers people! I guarantee you that no gate agent nor customer service rep in a call center caused this global tech debacle. Being mean to the folks who are trying to help and who are sharing information is just plain not cool. Try being nice. The worst that can happen is you demonstrate your sense of decency and humanity and perhaps encourage the person on the other side to go to the ends of the earth to help fix things for you. So, congratulations to thousands of new people, every month, who joined our business team, and within 90-days, started making income, which pulled them closer to having that time freedom to enjoy life never having to worry about jobs shutting down, downsizing, another horrific situation around the globe where a shut down is needed, or lay offs. A bad economy, inflation, or stock market crash, has NO effect on what we do. keep up the great work team. Who do you know, making a great income, who thinks outside the box, who doesn't want to stay an employee all their lives, and would want to take a look, a serious look, at adding additional income? A global company that operates in 50 states, with branch headquarters throughout the globe, with our World Headquarters being in North Carolina. We've been in business for over 30 years now. This is not a start-up business. No need to leave your living room or (the beach), lol. This will not interfere, get in the way, or add any added stress or workload to their existing jobs. I met a guy in Chase today. It was a lesson in what I don't want to turn into. Here's why: The bank teller knew him by first name. He presented as affluent with a lot of experience. No frills, but articulate. I figured he must've been an executive. We shot the breeze for a minute over the rain. Then I asked him what he did for a living. "I'm basically in sales", he said. Then he proceeded to tell me how many countries he's been to on business trips, how many accounts he manages, how many conferences he's spoken at, how he's no good at being managed, and said "I tell people, 'if you don't know my name, you're not in the business'". Now, don't get me wrong, I love hearing about peoples' experiences and businesses. I eat that stuff up. It was the air of arrogance that was mildly agitating. It's interesting when you go to the wealthier side of town… you get to meet some amazing people with some amazing experiences. But, you also get the feeling that you don't fit in, if you don't actually fit in. Guess that was the case for me today. I guess my point in this post is to just be genuine. Don't hide behind your accomplishments. Talk about them, to be sure. But don’t turn them into the mask that you wear. Your worth isn't measured by your accomplishments.
