Advocate for change, equality, and justice - I am challenging the status quo each and everyday.

On Dec 21st 2021, I was appointed to the Board of School Committee. As we get ready to close off the year and get ready for a new chapter as now ELECTED - I wanted share some amazing highlights that WE AS A BODY have accomplished: -De-leveling: We knew that leveling is a system that has been shown, to limit access to higher level learning opportunities for students from historically marginalized communities - so we now provide EQUITABLE access to ALL students to the same rigorous standards. -Long Term Facilities - Phase 1: We will closing Wilson School (127 Years Old), to then building a BRAND NEW school in CENTER CITY, and Renovations/Additions will be added to our four middle schools. All suitable for 21st century education - which will support us in keeping our class sizes down. -Budget: We used ESSER as well as additional adequacy aid to continue to support our strategic plan to grow our learners, staff, and systems - it also allowed us build our supports & services for our historically marginalized communities. -We just negotiated and passed 5 Union contracts that VALUES all off our staff by making us more competitive with districts in NH. -DUAL LANGUAGE IMMERSION - First in the state of NH (Spanish & English) that will be piloted at Bakersville Elementary School in the Fall of 24. -Developed MTSS-B (Multi-Tiered System of Support for Behavioral Health and Wellness), we were AWARDED a LARGE multi-year grant for behavioral health, and as well as a LARGE community Schools grant - to grow our sense of community! -Athletics: expanded from elementary through High School. -Updated the NG (No Grade) policy: The current policy of issuing “no grade” disproportionately affected students for whom English is not a native language and whose parents may face language barriers when offering valid reasons for absences. -Protected the rights of ALL of our youth & families. -Engaged in state education issues - providing united input towards the ED 306s, while simultaneously leveraging the Education Legislation subcommittee advocate at the state legislature. -We successfully recruited 2 student representatives from each of our 4 High Schools, totaling 8 Student Board of School Committee members! -We are offering more professional development that is focused on our strategic plan and is on-going. -We are in the final approval for the African American Studies course that will be piloted at Central High School. Pa delante Manchester!!!
