Closing the gender gap is not just a moral imperative; it's an economic one. Despite progress, the world is still far from achieving full gender parity. According to the Global Gender Gap Report 2024 shared by the World Economic Forum, Iceland stands out as the only country to have closed more than 90% of its gender gap. This milestone serves as both an inspiration and a call to action for other nations. At the current pace, global gender parity won't be reached until 2158, a timeline that is far too long. Accelerating progress towards gender equality benefits everyone, driving economic growth, enhancing organizational performance, and fostering more inclusive societies. As an executive sponsor of the Medtronic Women in Science & Engineering (WISE) initiative, I am deeply committed to closing the gender gap, especially in STEM fields. Championing gender equality is not only a professional responsibility but a personal passion. As we celebrate the remarkable milestone of Medtronic’s 75th anniversary this year, I’ve been reflecting on our journey and our future. It's a privilege to be part of this pioneering legacy, driving innovation in healthcare and helping to transform lives around the world. For me personally it has always been about the mission and the people. I will never forget shadowing a physician when delivering the news to a patient that they were tumor free. Or that during the COVID-19 pandemic, two lives were saved on day one of remote monitoring at the Javits field hospital. Powerful moments that represent a small fraction of the impact our work has. Our relentless pursuit of innovation continues to drive us forward, and our mission keeps us focused on the evolving needs of clinicians and the patients they serve. I enjoyed connecting with HIMSS recently to discuss how manufacturers can help address the challenges that hospital and IT leaders are facing with full-spectrum technology solutions.   There is so much potential for technologies, such as wearables and continuous remote monitoring, to enable patient care to shift from a reactive to proactive. Our Acute Care & Monitoring team is excited to announce that we have achieved FDA 510(k) clearance for our BIS™ Advance monitor.   The BIS™ Advance monitor is intended to support anesthesia providers in tailoring anesthesia dosing for each patient. Our goals with this technology are to enhance personalized treatment plans and ultimately improve patient outcomes.   I am incredibly proud of our team here in the Medtronic ACM business, including the engineers who worked tirelessly to develop this technology.
