Great places come from: - Creativity - Collaboration - Looking to others - Learning from others. Placemaking is not a one-person job. It’s not something you can do alone. It takes partnership. That’s why we will always champion the importance of partnership and collaboration for the benefit of the West End and beyond. Do we have our own vision for London and the nation? Of course. But it’s one that involves bringing our peers and partners along with us. And, it’s informed and inspired by looking at how other incredible cities around the world are changing for the better, before thinking about how we can achieve similar things. Two partnerships I’ve been particularly proud of last year: - Our work with Westminster City Council developing a long-term vision for Regent Street, and with Zoological Society of London (ZSL) and The Royal Parks to restore the spine between St James’s and The Regent’s Park (a personal passion of mine) - Our collaborative report with National Trust, Peabody, Historic England, and Grosvenor designed to help address the UK skills gap in the area of heritage retrofit, boost the economy and support its net zero future. Our Senior Engineer, Chris Sherman, P.E., is next in our team member highlight for our #SNYLturns20 series. Which one of your current projects excites you the most? 🎤"The Populus Building in Denver. This building will be a significant part of the Denver skyline for the rest of my life. I am happy that I was able to contribute my small part to this." What kind of projects do you want to work in the future? 🎤"I hope to continue to contribute to architecturally forward projects that represent the personalities of the cities they are built in. A building should make you pause to look up as you walk past." What do you see as the largest barrier to a zero-waste building, city, and world? 🎤"The building materials themselves. Large steps need to be taken in the next few decades to find and use local materials with the smallest environmental impact." What is the greatest potential for architecture and/or engineering to shape a neighborhood community? 🎤"Buildings designed with the community in mind. Foot traffic, restaurants, and housing intermixed to form a unique community that people enjoy spending time in." What restaurant would you recommend your coworkers to try? 🎤"Lucky Noodles in Denver. Khao Soi with crispy chicken." If you could sum up your outlook on life in a movie quote or lyric, what would it be? 🎤 “I’m interested in the way major events don’t necessarily announce themselves as major events. They’re often little things - the drip, drip of life that changes people or affects people.” - Noah Baumbach

It's taken a few months, but I have my newest deep dive history of downtown Gainesville, part two of a three-part history. The 1980's were the first steps in revitalization. By focusing on designing for people and investing in the arts we created the sparks that would make downtown a lively city center by the early 2000's. If #visitor-driven, how will location relate to where most downtown #hotel rooms are located (ie. towards #UnionSquare)?
