Currents & Challenges: Offshore Wind in the North Sea 🌊 The North Sea still holds great promise for offshore wind development. According to WindEurope, the industry is on track to meet the EU's 2030 targets of 76 GW. Additionally, collaborative efforts by NSEC countries to plan joint offshore wind tenders will see 15 GW of offshore wind auctions annually and nearly 100 GW awarded by 2030. 💨 However, the industry is presented with challenges for further deployment of wind at sea: from sharing the North Sea and balancing multifaced interests among key stakeholders over issues of grid integration, bottlenecks, exporting electrons to complementing sectors in dire need, and to executing on environmental impacts. The factors of implications are many and diverse. 🌍 On April 11th, Flux Partners will be participating in a Dutch-Danish seminar to discuss these current challenges and opportunities for offshore wind in the North Sea. It was a great opportunity to join last weeks BWO - Bundesverband Windenergie Offshore e.V. panel on the Zukunft Offshore 2024 conference in Berlin hosted by Jörg Kubitza and Stefan Thimm Thanks for great moderation by Giles Dickson and discussion with Hanns Koenig Niels Anger Ralph Brinkhaus Philipp Godron On the panel I was asked about the learnings from the European PV industry for #OffshoreWind: 👉🏼The fate of the PV industry in Europe -and especially in Germany- should be a strong warning signal for the wind industry & institutional stakeholders. 👉🏼 In a relatively short term a local industry, which was the global technology leader, was destroyed. Now our complete supply chain is fully dependent from China. 👉🏼 We basically traded short term cost benefits into a long-term energy dependency. 👉🏼 For wind power the difference is that we still have an industrial base in Europe. 👉🏼 Like other Western OEM E.g. Siemens Gamesa manufactures Offshorewind turbines in German, France, Denmark and England. In our Nacelle plant in Cuxhaven more than 1000 people are employed. 👉🏼 We heavily invest in R&D in Europe. We engage with Academia and develop new talents and skills. 👉🏼As the motto of last WindEurope conference in Bilbao, “our wind, pour value”: this if the value we bring to Society, additional to energy security 👉🏼So, ultimately, it is about implementing the Wind Power Action Plan, Net Zero Industry Act and other policies and initiatives, that shall create the appropriate frameworks, that will bring long term visible and stable volumes, ensuring that risks are well balanced along the value chain. 👉🏼It is about ensuring that fair competition and a healthy offshore market, which has proven not to be the case by cost being the only driver and pushing the supply chain to an unstoppable race to the bottom

KEY2024 - As President of the Belgian Offshore Cluster (BOC), I had the honor to participate in the panel debat about the Italian & European Offshore Wind industry during KEY2024, the Energy transition expo & conference in Rimini (Italy) - with thanks to #ANEV for organising this session. Italy has big ambitions regarding their Offshore wind engergy towards 2030 and beyond, but still faces serious challenges regarding regulations and the availability of a mature supply chain. These ambitions can only be reached through colaboration with other European partners. What an incredible turnout from #TeamRWE at Oceantic Network’s #IPF2024. We had 9 employees participate in events, sharing their knowledge with other #offshore wind industry experts, as we all work together to create a cleaner future. It also serves as a moment to take a step back and appreciate the growth in the offshore wind industry. In just a year’s time, the U.S. offshore wind industry has advanced leaps and bounds from planning, to installation, and now operations. Steel is in the water, power is being delivered to shore, and the market is brimming with the promise of more projects still to come. We have 6 GW in our offshore development pipeline, and we have plans for more across the United States coasts. We’re working together with local communities and doing our part to make sure we bring more than just clean energy. We want to ensure that we create local jobs and promote economic growth across the U.S.

🇹🇷Just arrived in Istanbul and are looking forward to attend and held a speech at ICCI - Uluslararası Enerji ve Çevre Fuarı 2024 at the session "Offshore Wind - opportunities for Türkiye" organized by Denizüstü Rüzgar Enerjisi Derneği (DÜRED) (Turkish Offshore Wind Association) with chairman Dr Murat Durak as host! The event starts at 10.30 AM. My focus will be on workforce development, GWO training, as well as Wind Tech education and R&D for the offshore wind industry. At the event Knut Høiland will present the combined floating wind and wave platform Flex2power (developed in Norway) - looking for partnership with Turkish industry for fabrication, academia for EU and R&D projects and governance for possible installations in Turkish waters. In the Norwegian Delegation also Tor Arne Johnsen from Norwegian Offshore Wind will be present. We will also join in B2B meetings after lunch. Energy Innovation - NORWAY has entered into an agreement to collaborate on the development of a one-stop-shop for training, education and R&D for offshore wind in Türkiye with Bandırma Onyedi Eylül Üniversitesi. We will visit Bandirma on Friday 26th. During the visit to Bandirma there will also be a focus on Green Hydrogen production and energy systems (where Energy Innovation will share information from the ROBINSON - H2020 project). Norwegian maritime industry has long traditions in collaboration with the very well performing Turkish industry for building ships and offshore installations. We believe there is great opportunities for a collaboration also for the offshore wind industry in the years to come.
