Feelings of loneliness and isolation are among the reasons behind disengagement at work, low productivity levels, and, ultimately, high retention rates. 😔 Now that you do care, here are 5 strategies to build and maintain a sense of community at work: Build Trust: Communicate openly and consistently with your workforce to establish a sense of psychological safety and, by extension, to create an emotional connection between your employees and the business. Ensure Greater Organizational Alignment: When employees understand the company's core values and goals, they are more likely to feel like part of a community. Shared objectives facilitate collaboration and improve morale. Double down on DEI: Diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives are crucial for creating a sense of belonging. Prioritize creating an inclusive environment where all employees feel valued and supported. Measure Employees’ Pulse: The best way to know if you're succeeding at building a sense of community is to ask 🤯. Send out regular pulse surveys to identify areas for improvement and gauge employee sentiment. Foster Connections Between Employees: Create opportunities for employees to connect based on shared interests and values to strengthen workplace relationships and enhance engagement (ever heard of a social intranet 👀?). You've probably noticed that none of these ideas are a quick fix. As with many good things, employee experience takes time to build (and even more so to maintain), but the results speak for themselves.
