Consider this: [1] More than 53 million people (1 in 5 adults) now provide uncompensated care to their spouses, partners, parents, or children with serious health problems or disabilities — with 60% of them employed outside the home. [2] About 60% of caregivers are women, and nearly one-fourth are part of a sandwich generation, taking care of both parents and children. [3] 90% of caregivers are financial caregivers, defined as either contributing direct financial support or coordinating some or all of their loved one’s money-related matters. [4] Family caregivers have an average of about $7,200 per year in out-of pocket expenses. Many caregivers also leave the labor force or retire earlier to devote sufficient time to caregiving duties. It shouldn't come as a surprise when caregivers report having less in savings and investments. Such challenges will only grow. Whether you are a financial institution/fintech, a financial advisor, or an employer, this presents an opportunity for you to work with individuals and families to plan ahead for financial caregiving and longevity.
