For KINALI as a deep tech company, the Visionaries award is special. Why? Deep tech is based on a long development process before the actual product or the final order for a specific client is created. They are not box solutions that can be produced in bulk. When you are about to embark on a long and expensive development process (understand months to years and millions of crowns in investment) and most importantly when you want it to turn out well, you need a vision at the beginning. A vision of what you are creating, what the machine should be able to do, how it should serve the new owner. Especially when most of the machines or software we build for our customers perform tasks unique to each job. Letting go of what once was for a brighter next. 🌱 "When one door closes another door opens; but we so often look so long and so regretfully upon the closed door, that we do not see the ones which open for us." Alexander Graham Bell quondam (adj) 1: meaning one-time, former, having been formerly 2: as a noun meaning the former as in champion or office holder Originating from Latin to referring to having been, former as in-state of or to the person who is former or once held. Who we used to be…an ending. Ikigai is about more than our career. My career is one quondam experience after another. The most obvious is the most recent. After leading a storied company to globally recognized success in innovation and improvement I became a quondam (former) director of that same company. My department was eliminated and with it my job and the jobs of many others. The good news was my identity wasn’t wrapped up in my role. I remember my first day at Indena as if it were yesterday. It was fascinating to discover how much science was being produced starting from plants, radically changing my perspective on the natural world and its incredible role in human health. 24 years later, that enchantment remains intact. Technologies advance, research and innovation proceed at an incessant pace shaping a new vision of health that works on the principles of personalization, sustainability, greater prevention and less treatment. In nature, there are all the answers for those who are able to search for them with curiosity and respect.
