🇪🇺 Standing with the most vulnerable. The EU announced last week significant increases in humanitarian aid to address ongoing crises in West Africa and the Greater Horn of Africa. The additional humanitarian aid will help provide life-saving assistance in the face of major challenges before people in those regions. The funds will alleviate the plight of millions in 🇧🇫 🇲🇱 🇳🇪 🇲🇷 🇳🇬, and countries in the Gulf of Guinea, and support the scale-up of life-saving assistance in 🇪🇹 🇸🇴 🇸🇸. The EU remains committed to supporting those in need.

Strengthening communities against disinformation. As part of the EU’s Digital Europe Programme, the European Digital Media Observatory is setting up regional hubs to fight disinformation. These hubs aim to bring together organisations from across the EU to: 🕵️♀️ Enhance disinformation detection 📢 Improve public awareness ⏩ Design effective national responses Apply now to support your local media ecosystem 👇

🇮🇹 🇸🇮 🇦🇹 🇬🇷 🇫🇷, Europe is with you. Today, the European Commission proposed €1 billion in financial support from the EU Solidarity Fund to cover part of the recovery operations after the devastating floods that severely hit these countries in 2023. It includes: 🏗️ Repairing damaged infrastructure 🏛️ Safeguarding cultural heritage 🧹 Conducting clean-up operations Standing with the affected communities: the true colours of #EUSolidarity.

The EU is reducing its energy dependencies. The share of renewable energy in the EU increased to 46% in the first quarter of 2024, outplaying fossil fuels. The 🇪🇺 electricity market report also shows that the share of fossil fuels fell significantly to 25%, compared to 31% in the first quarter of 2023. As Ukraine celebrates its National Flag Day and prepares for its 33rd Independence Day, the European Commission and the Parliament have unfurled the 🇺🇦 flag in Brussels, symbolising Europe’s steadfast support and solidarity with Ukraine. On this day in 1939, the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact was signed, paving the way for Nazi and Soviet oppression. Today, 85 years later, Europe honours the victims of totalitarian regimes and those who fought against them. 🕯️ Democracy is precious and must be protected. 🇪🇺🇺🇦 A tangible sign of Europe's unwavering solidarity with Ukraine. Since March 2022, the #EUCivilProtection Mechanism has helped evacuate 3,600+ Ukrainian patients to hospitals in 22 European countries. This is the EU’s largest medical evacuation yet. Together, we #StandWithUkraine.

The EU mobilises assistance for wildfires in Madeira. Following Portugal’s activation of the #EUCivilProtection Mechanism, the European Commission has deployed 2 Canadair planes from the #rescEU reserve in Spain to support the emergency response. The Copernicus emergency satellite system has also been activated to provide maps. #EUSolidarity is in action.
