This is a huge deal. I grew up in the era of NES and SNES and Sega Genesis. The competitive landscape changed when Sony came in, bringing a new physical storage technology in the form of compact discs. Ever since then, they have been a mainstay and a major source of competition in an industry with fewer and fewer major players every year. If Sony’s own internal documents are stating they are moving into the future playing catch-up against the behemoth Microsoft.
