The UK experienced unprecedented growth in #healthcare spending over 2020 and 2021 following the coronavirus pandemic, with healthcare spending rising to 26.8% higher in nominal terms in 2022 compared with 2019. The Office for National Statistics, earlier this year shared that spending on healthcare in the UK in 2022 reached approximately £283 billion. This week #bimacademy's Dr Melanie Robinson delivered a talk on the use of #data for #FacilitiesManagement in healthcare and how utilising #digital processes can support the healthcare industry in reducing expenditure to save on estate management costs and capital project spending. This made us reflect on the number of healthcare projects we have delivered in the past few years, during and post covid, including a $1.72 billion state of the art hospital and Cancer Centre in #Vancouver and a £400 million redevelopment project which is one of the first contributions to the UK government’s New Hospital Programme. For all of our healthcare projects, it is about de risking the project during #construction. This means that at handover, we have good quality asset information that can be used by the FM team to make better decisions about how they operate. Healthcare is changing rapidly across the globe as the industry transitions from from purely infrastructure based solutions to a system based approach with greater utilisation of virtual and remote technology, growing digitally empowered talent, smarter and more efficient architecture, and data driven systems. All of this will enable our healthcare workers to deliver better outcomes for our communities. Our Global Health Director Matthew Holmes sets out a blueprint for this evolution using inputs and lessons from Jacobs healthcare programs across Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and the US. Across ANZ we are proud of both the virtual and physical programs we are helping our healthcare clients deliver to enable greater, more sustainable outcomes for our communities. Jacobs

The groundbreaking ceremony for the Gilgan Family Queensway Health Centre marks a significant milestone in Ontario's healthcare infrastructure development. Trillium Health Partners (THP) is embarking on the construction of a state-of-the-art, 600,000 square foot patient care tower, signaling a substantial investment in enhancing healthcare services for the community. The $1.3 billion fixed-price contract awarded to EllisDon underscores the magnitude of this project and the commitment to delivering high-quality healthcare facilities. This endeavor aligns with the government's vision of strengthening the healthcare system to meet the evolving needs of Ontarians. Karli Farrow, president and CEO of Trillium Health Partners, emphasizes the center's role as a beacon of modern complex care and rehabilitation services. By consolidating specialized care under one roof, the Gilgan Family Queensway Health Centre aims to provide comprehensive, patient-centered healthcare tailored to the community's needs. The expansion, designed to accommodate the anticipated surge in demand for specialized care over the next two decades, signifies a proactive approach to addressing future healthcare challenges. With more than 350 private rooms and purpose-built spaces for rehabilitation and healing, the center prioritizes patient comfort and well-being. Premier Doug Ford's endorsement of the project reflects the government's commitment to investing in resilient healthcare infrastructure. By fostering collaborations between public and private sectors, initiatives like the Gilgan Family Queensway Health Centre contribute to building a sustainable healthcare system capable of meeting the needs of a growing population. As construction commences on this transformative healthcare facility, the question arises: How can stakeholders in the construction industry ensure the timely and efficient completion of projects like the Gilgan Family Queensway Health Centre to meet the pressing healthcare needs of communities? #HealthcareInfrastructure #OntarioHealthcare #PatientCare #CommunityHealth #ConstructionIndustry

Embedded in a learning health system, we are committed to impact-oriented research to facilitate health system change.
We’re back from #CAHSPR24! It was great to present on several of the projects SE Research Centre and SE Health are leading, including: -updating home health #nursing #competencies, -developing patient-reported experience measures, and -#codesigning #MentalHealth conversations. If you missed our presentations or weren’t able to attend the conference, you can read about our work here: https://lnkd.in/gqWrJ9ZJ Key take-aways from our team? 1. Defining 'expertise' in Learning Health Systems (#LHS): LHS are firmly on the radar to integrate data and #knowledge into practice, but we need to include #ExpertsByExperience intentionally and meaningfully in learning cycles and build mechanisms for this to be accomplished equitably. 2. Simultaneous top down and bottom-up #innovation: There is a lot of opportunity for micro- and meso-level #leadership in health system innovation that can complement and even inform simultaneous macro change(s) 3. Public #trust is needed for progress: Regularly updated evidence syntheses present a promising strategy to counter misinformation regarding #PublicHealth, #HealthServices and #HealthPolicy, but to build public trust for collective action we need innovative knowledge mobilization to make key messages stick. Looking forward to the opportunity to connect again next year at #CAHSPR25! Canadian Association of Health Services and Policy Research
