Used tissue paper will typically not be recycled... Tesco's secondary packaging will now be recyclable. Starting this Christmas, Tesco will use fibre based packaging to protect their own brand pocket tissues as well as the packaging for the multipacks. According to an article in The Guardian, this will eliminate about 35 tonnes of flexible plastic packaging. Great example. I've remained pretty quiet about this for over 12 months, but reports like this get my back up. End markets is EXACTLY what's needed. More pull through of the material. THAT'S why REDcycle held onto the recovered materials, with many broken promises from multiple organisations to pull the material through, but didn't because they couldn't move the products off the shelves. It wasn't being surreptitiously "stockpiled" (that angle in these stories makes me incredibly mad). Governments must more actively advocate for a higher percentage of recycled material to be included in all procurement. And more actively advertise to the Australian consumer about making more considered purchasing decisions. This goes for ALL materials, not just soft plastics. Recycling doesn't end when we put the recyclable waste in the right bin. We ALL have a responsibility to be more conscientious buyers. https://lnkd.in/gtTadn3X

Members of the UK Plastic Pact, @Courtauld 2030 and WRAP experts will host a summit on Thursday (21st March) in a bid to accelerate a ban on supermarket packaging. With only 18% of products currently sold without packaging, the summit will contribute to ongoing efforts by the UK Plastic Pact to encourage supermarkets to sell more unpackaged fresh products. At risk of missing its target of 30% of fruit & veg being sold loose by 2025, The UK Plastic Pact is also calling for more than 20 supermarket products to be routinely sold loose. A move that will potentially help to reignite momentum in this area. PepsiCo has reformulated Walkers Sunbites to make them HFSS compliant and transitioned them to new packs made with 50% recycled plastic. The move to the new packs would eliminate the use of 200 tonnes of fossil-based plastic by the end of 2025, it added. “We’re working hard to reinvent our packaging.
