This is truly a gem for me, so I wanted to share it with all of you. ------ There are no 'right' career paths. Careers are not just straight lines to success. Gone are days of linear job progression. Careers have pivots and unexpected turns. And setbacks aren't failures, just new routes. Want to start your own company? Go for it. Work for Google for Meta? That's great. Got laid off? Happy New Year everyone! With the holidays behind me (and a 36 hour flight delay to top it off), it's time to get out and continue the search for my next opportunity in #productmanagement The job hunt thus far has been a grind to put it gently. I love data, so here's some fast facts: Applications: 300+ 1st round interviews: 75 2nd round interviews: 40 Final interviews: 9 There's lots of incredible companies out there, but we're still searching for that goldilocks role! Between my time in Product at #Meta, my past experience in #data, and in #startups, I’ve honed a unique blend of skills that have equipped me to bridge the gap between tech teams, operations, and business functions. In the meanwhile, I've been reading some fascinating books about social infrastructure and political psychology. I'm also undertaking some courses on AI/ML for product managers. I’m ready to bring all of these skills and more to a new, dynamic, and challenging environment. If you happen to know of a role looking to be filled by an experienced PM who can prioritize key initiatives, foster collaboration across diverse teams, and move fast in ambiguity, hit me up! Hiring Product Designers, User Researchers, Service Designers etc shouldn't be difficult. What is difficult? Creating a good design value proposition. If you're struggling to scale your team, reflect on your current value proposition and how appealing it is to the industry: 👉 Does your opportunity have purpose? 👉 Do you have a strong design culture? 👉 Is design represented 'at the table'? 👉 Are people able to work in a way that’s productive for them? 👉 How have your current team progressed since joining? 👉 What is your strategy for learning and development? 👉 How are people compensated for their skills? Don't settle for having a company-wide EVP for everyone. Product Designers could be attracted to something different to a Software Engineer, Data Scientist, Business Development Manager or Customer Service Associate. If you apply a one size fits all approach to scaling, don't expect to be able to attract and hire design talent easily.

If you've just stepped into the Software Engineering world as a new grad, getting a grip on this could really speed up your journey to the next level Joining Meta as a new grad, I felt hesitant to ask questions. Not just shyness, but unsure how to seek help. I feared asking would seem weak, believing independence was key among the brilliant minds around me With that mindset, whenever I got a project, I'd dive straight into coding, stressing over piecing it together. This pressure made me code non-stop until I hit a wall. Only then I would pause to look back on what are we trying to build—a big mistake In my early days, while developing key features for Business Messaging in ads, I followed the same old mindset and didn't question the product enough. Midway, I realized we were missing two crucial components requiring extra content. This might seem like a minor oversight, but it led me to align more closely with the product designer and my product manager. However, that's not where the tale ends! At Facebook, with their intense focus on privacy, especially for ads products, Most contents must be reviewed by the privacy team. Here's where it got tricky for me: this triggered a privacy review, extending my timeline by 2-3 weeks 😳. For a new grad, this was quite intimidating. Yet, it was a valuable lesson. Not asking "why" and "what are we trying to achieve" turned into one of my biggest roadblocks! This experience taught me a crucial lesson: if you're technically stuck, you can dive into the code base to find a way out, affecting only you. But if you're unclear about the product's purpose, oh man, it consumes both time and effort, and sadly, it's your results that bear the brunt I learned that people value impact above all. Nobody keeps score of how you overcame obstacles. Asking "Why are we doing this?" is the key to moving forward without dropping the ball. #recruiters #talentacquisition Consider how generic your job description is. Generic job descriptions diminish your chances of finding the right candidate. They also increase the volume of "spray and pray" applications. How many times have you seen someone on this platform post "I've applied to 2, 3 , 4 hundred jobs and am rejected every time"? After getting laid off at Meta last year, I did the same thing. Applied to anything with the title "recruiter" that asked for experience with product design, tech, or creative, and I received virtually zero responses. The unfortunate truth is that no applicant is qualified for hundreds of jobs. That's not logically sound. But how are they supposed to know what your team is looking for if you're not communicating this clearly on your job description? Without compromising the privacy of your team's project, gather whatever critical information you can about the role from hiring managers on your intake session and make sure you speak to those core needs on your job posting. Beyond the software and titles, what are the few mandatory requirements this person will need to make an impact on this project and future projects? Hoping this helps.
