At WCIU we seek to find solutions to the roots of human problems. With nearly 1.4 billion people involuntarily displaced across the globe, we believe that land justice is an area of deep human need. Read a recent blog post from the work of our MA in Transformational Urban Leadership students to learn more. https://hubs.ly/Q02fjDT50 Justice-making is the work of the anointing of the Spirit of God on his servants (Isa 43:1-4).

Random Sunday Reflections: Per Spinas Ad Culmina During my A level years, an opportunity arose for students to engage in #civicaffairs in the City of Progress. Competing alongside peers, I ran for the position of Junior Councillor, an experience that shaped my understanding of service and governance. Being part of the council exposed me to the #responsibilities of #leadership and allowed me to cultivate essential skills such as communication and networking. One vivid memory that lingers from that time is the day a Mazda 626, a symbol of prestige then, arrived to pick me up for an event at the Town House. Walking to the car in full glare of my family , friends and secret admirers was electrifying. Dressed in my neat #Thornhill High School uniform, the moment was a poignant reminder of the motto on my blazer: "Per Spinas Ad Culmina" (Through thorns to the hilltop). It was in those moments that my passion for public policy and governance was ignited. Reflecting on those formative years, I am grateful for the lasting connections forged with many people and fellow junior councillors including individuals like Jethro Makaye Bota Tawanda Chinobva, and Jacob, who later assumed the role of Junior Mayor. The experience instilled in me a sense of duty, emphasizing the importance of service, effective communication, and the nuances of leadership. #RandomReflections #Service #LeadershipDevelopment #Networking #PublicPolicy #CityOfProgress

*Letter to Our Fathers* Dear Father, I write to you because you possess the knowledge, wisdom, skill, virtue, and power to keep our nation moving forward. We have heard of your achievements and applauded your successes, but you have failed in mentoring the younger generations. Have you considered the gap between your generation and ours? Doctors of Philosophy without knowledge of research. Doctors without empathy. Judges without justice. First-class graduates without character. Leaders without patriotism. And so on. We admire success, but we don’t understand how you achieved it. Although we are technologically skilled, we feel like a one-eyed man in a kingdom of the blind. Wake up, oh sleeping fathers, for we are afraid you are transitioning with the burden of your legacy. If we are not properly mentored; our generation may come to think that the burden was merely a chewing stick. Give us a place in society; we hunger to build. Teach us to be like you. *This is a cry for mentorship*

Check out my latest interview on Road Trip Nation!
Dr. James Lane was recently interviewed by RoadtripNation about his 'road through life', including his roles as teacher, principal, superintendent, and now as CEO of PDK International. "The advice I'd give anyone who wants to get into leadership is to build relationships with a lot of friends. Leadership is collaborative and we need to work together to create the greatest impact. Networking and building relationships are also great ways to open up doors to opportunity." https://lnkd.in/eVSrKtK6

Exciting developments in Mississippi! Every six weeks, leaders from public and private sectors convene at the Mississippi Action Learning Network (MALN) to collaboratively enhance services for the people of Mississippi. This peer group, comprising 15 leaders from various agencies, is making waves in advancing family economic mobility and addressing critical issues affecting Mississippians. Facilitated by Alex Figueroa, Assistant Director of Learning and Development at the American Public Human Services Association (APHSA), MALN provides a crucial platform for leaders to unite, share ideas and comprehensively understand their impact on Mississippi. APHSA plays a pivotal bipartisan role, supporting leaders from human services agencies to uplift individuals, families and communities nationwide. At the core of MALN's mission is generative leadership, innovative programming, customer-centered experiences, and community-focused education. As a pioneering state in advancing family economic mobility, MALN is addressing workforce development, talent acquisition, equitable pay scale transition and more.
