As businesses grow, it can be very easy to fall into this trap of “but that’s not my job”. And in my opinion, it’s a dangerous one. The challenge is how to prevent this, and no surprise, it’s largely to do with the culture you create and the people you bring onto your team. All it takes is one bad apple and years of good work can be undone. The right team, and it doesn’t matter whose job it is, they’ll get it done. Addressing the strains within partnerships is crucial for an exemplary customer experience. I firmly stand by the belief that department discontent is an opportunity for transformation. My approach centers on attentive listening, deeply understanding concerns, and acknowledging their personal impact on the customer. The divide between Parts and Service often affects the customer experience. When It's evident that there's a disconnect, where Service perceives Parts as a hindrance, while Parts feels unsupported by Service. To mend this cultural rift, I propose a collaborative approach focused on mutual understanding, open communication, and shared goals. Building a cohesive culture starts with fostering empathy and collaboration between departments. By cultivating a shared understanding of each other's challenges and commitments, we can forge a unified front aimed at delivering exceptional service to our customers. I'm eager to initiate discussions and strategies that promote a harmonious culture, one that elevates our partnerships and ultimately enhances the customer journey.

Last week's announcement about Melissa & Doug got endless coverage, but this interview stood out. Our CEO, Max Rangel, did a terrific interview with Toronto's CBC's Metro Morning last week. It's worth a full listen, but at one-point, Max mentions something so many Spin Master employees can identify with. People always tell us, "You think like a six-year-old." Why is it that people think business is supposed to be boring, grown-up, dry and uptight? The same ingredients that go into making a great toy--the creativity, the sense of adventure, the inventiveness, the spirit, and the sheer lust to have fun—are the same ingredients that go into making a great company.
