Exciting Times at SuperSpar Butchery in Newlands! 🚀 For the past two weeks, I have had the incredible opportunity to learn and grow at SuperSpar Butchery in Newlands. This hands-on experience in a fast-paced retail environment has been nothing short of enlightening! 🌟 I am extremely grateful to SuperSpar Butchery for allowing me to learn from their amazing team. It is a great honor to be a part of their operations and see firsthand how the butchery functions. I also want to extend my heartfelt thanks to Crown Food Group for giving us this invaluable learning experience. 🙏 Here's a glimpse of what I've learned so far: - Slicing Machine : Mastering the art of slicing meat with precision 🔪✨ - Biltong Machine : Understanding the process of making this popular South African delicacy 🍖👌 - Scale : Ensuring accurate weight measurements for customer satisfaction ⚖️✅ - Wrapping Machine : Keeping meat products fresh and presentable 🥩🎁 - Cold Room Temperatures : Learning the importance of maintaining optimal temperatures for meat preservation ❄️🔬 Throughout this experience, I've been involved in numerous essential practices, ensuring I understand every aspect of the butchery operation. Grainger…..for the ones who get it done! Yes that is their slogan used in their TV ad campaign. Has anyone caught the version that shows a bakery making hot dog buns and a maintenance man solving problems with Grainger solutions? It ran during the March Madness and still can be seen. This post isn’t about Grainger and their solutions. This is about the fact that bakery was used on TV, in prime time. When is the industry….ABA, ASB, BEMA and AIB going to hook onto something like this and run an industry campaign about the glamours of bakery life and career. We have talked about labor issues and talent levels being short across the board. What has the industry done about that? How has industry been promoted to those who don’t know? Yes certain companies do a nice job promoting careers in their own market, but industry wide we don’t see a lot that goes out to general public. When do we have a Got Milk style campaign? “Bread is Life, and Career”……something along those lines. One for all ! Recently, we have changed the dispatching in some bakeries from one picking area to several picking areas. This means that the customers are divided into several “streets” as we call them. The advantage of this is that the streets work independently of each other and walking distances are shortened. A so-called pre-dispatcher is located upfront of the streets. This is where the quantities coming from production are allocated to the streets. This is another decisive difference. From now on, the pre-dispatcher decides on shortages, cuts and over-deliveries and no longer each individual picker. Also unbelievably unproductive. This is a realistic take. Better business practices, more media and marketing investment and genuine consumer cultural and life stage connection will make the competitive difference to wine brands for success over the next 5-10 years. We need to grow the category. We are in the beverage business.
