The challenge is real: in 2024, we face numerous decisive elections that will have a major influence on the functionality of our democratic system. How much more political fragmentation and polarization will we see - and what does that imply for responses from civil society, policy makers and staunch but silent democrats? These are only some of the questions we discuss within our Alfred Landecker Foundation community. #defenddemocracy #inthistogether
“We want to foster connections, work together on ideas, learn from each other, challenge each other, and be inspired by each other,” says our co-CEO, Silke Muelherr, speaking at last summer’s Landecker Community Summit. Encompassing various backgrounds from academia to activism, our community thrives on unique and unconventional perspectives, driving us to find innovative solutions to the pressing questions of our times. The Landecker Community is a network of people from organisations that are funded by us or who are otherwise interlinked with our work. Together, we support and empower each other, striving collectively to remember the Holocaust, fight antisemitism and other forms of group-based hatred, and strengthen democracy and the rule of law. Public Health Thought Partner | CEO @ The Public Health Millennial | Health Equity Thought Partner | Health Improvement Program Officer
Resistance is the life blood of health equity. Black people have resisted enslavement and occupation for centuries. 5 Black revolts we need to remember - Ethiopia is the only African country never colonized - Gaspar Yagna's Rebellion - The Haitian Revolution - Nat Turner's Rebellion - The Baptist War Resistance is inherent in health equity work. Resistance gives community power to fight for their needs. Resistance allows for community's full health realization. We are in an era of unprecedented attacks on health equity. Pushback today looks like - Altering language and creating gag laws - Destruction of DEI initiatives - Adoption of race neutrality In order to improve health and achieve health equity, resistance is mandatory. We must challenge the ways we think, we act, and the systems, policies, and infrastructure around us. As Bob Marley shares, “Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery. None but ourselves can free our minds.” It all starts with how we think. Let's rethink how we do health and health equity. Ensuring we resist the ideologies and systems that bend towards inequities. For healthier communities, everywhere. #publichealth #blackhealth #healthequity #blackhistory #blackhistorymonth
