Today we honor Juneteenth. It was on June 19, 1865, when the last Confederate community of enslaved Americans in Galveston, Texas, received word that they had been freed from bondage. By Honoring Juneteenth: 🔴 We learn about slavery and its enduring legacy, fostering empathy, awareness, and a commitment to combating racism and inequality. 🔴 We bring people together across racial and cultural lines, commemorating the struggles of the past while working towards a more inclusive and equitable future. 🔴 We honor ancestors, acknowledge past injustices, and heal from intergenerational trauma caused by slavery and systemic racism. Honoring Juneteenth each year helps us foster understanding, empathy, and solidarity across communities. Let’s take this time to reflect on the progress made toward racial equality while acknowledging the work that still needs to be done to achieve true justice and liberation for all. #honoring #juneteenth #combatingracism #candidlyspeaking #community #understanding

Today we honor freedom, celebrate unity , and reflect on our history. Juneteenth is an important holiday commemorating the end of slavery in the United States. Union General Gordon Granger announced in Galveston, Texas, that all enslaved people in Texas were free June 19, 1865. This announcement came two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued by President Abraham Lincoln. Enslaved people in Texas, upon hearing the news, celebrated their newfound freedom with jubilation. Juneteenth celebrations began as early as 1866, with community gatherings, prayer services, feasts, and various festivities. Juneteenth is a symbol of African American resilience, freedom, and perseverance in the face of oppression. It serves as a reminder of the long and challenging journey toward racial equality and justice in the United States. Today, Juneteenth celebrations often include educational events, community service initiatives, and discussions about racial equality and social justice. Let's continue to work towards a future of equality and justice for all. 🎉✊ #Juneteenth#endslavery#freedom#equality#justice

The head of MIT, Penn, Harvard should get their resignation later yesterday. Visit this link and you will see why University heads and presidents answer to congressional hearing whether an explicit call for genocide against the Jews is considered a violation of the institution's laws. They did not agree to answer that it‘s a violation, but instead twisted their answers like: "It depends on the context." Is it legitimate to call for the death of black people? definitely not. Is it legitimate to call for the death of LGBTQ? definitely not. Is it legitimate to call for the death of Jews in US universities? It depends on the context. #unbelievable #future #standwithhumanity

How would you feel if you discovered today that you had been free for over a year, but no one had told you? This unimaginable scenario was a reality for many enslaved individuals in the United States before Juneteenth. Wong Fleming commemorates Juneteenth, celebrated each year on June 19th. This significant day marks the emancipation of enslaved individuals in the United States. Although the 1862 Emancipation Proclamation had declared the end of slavery for Confederate states on January 1, 1863, many enslavers intentionally held this information from their slaves and refused to follow it. It wasn’t until June 19, 1865 that Major General Gordon Granger arrived with a force of soldiers in Galveston, Texas, delivering General Order No. 3, which proclaimed the end of the civil war and freedom of all enslaved individuals in Texas. This freed more than 250,000 people, granting them the option to depart or remain and be regarded as employed laborers. The newly freed population of Texas marked this significant milestone, establishing Juneteenth as an annual celebration. Juneteenth became a federal holiday in 2021. Throughout the United States, Juneteenth is celebrated by holding local community events, parades, parties, and festivities. Wong Fleming is committed to observing Juneteenth as a day of celebration and reflection and has made Juneteenth a firm-wide holiday. We strive to foster an inclusive environment that values the unique perspectives and experiences of all individuals, irrespective of their race, ethnicity, gender, or background. We are fully committed to sustained engagement in helping end racial and economic inequity in our city, community, and industry. #wongfleming #juneteenth #juneteenth2024 #federalholiday #observance #june19 #emancipationproclamation #diversity #slavery #freedom #equality #humanrights #justice

We are proud once again to celebrate Juneteenth – a federal holiday held each June 19 to commemorate the ending of slavery. The holiday’s name combines the words "June" and "nineteenth" – the day in 1865 when 250,000 slaves in Texas were declared free, nearly two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed by Abraham Lincoln. It remains a significant moment in American history. Nearly 160 years later, our nation is still confronting urgent issues of racial #injustice that exist across our society – from health care and education to the criminal justice system and #housing. In California, African Americans are five times more likely than white people to experience #homelessness. This is reflected in who we serve at Abode. In the communities where Abode works, people identifying as Black, African American or African represent 1 to 11 percent of the general population per the U.S. Census, but represent up to 48 percent of who we serve. Racism and #discriminatory #policies and practices continue to persist. A critical part of our work is to reflect on and address the challenges of racism and #exclusion that we see in our housing work. We encourage each of you to read Abode’s pledge of anti-racism on our website at abode.org. Our pledge acknowledges that #homelessness is inextricably linked to structural #racism, as people of color have historically been denied many of the housing and financial resources afforded to white people. This #Juneteenth, we aim to explore the history and achievements of the African American #community in order to increase our collective understanding of our country’s past and current issues around housing #inequality – and how we continue our work to solve this problem. In that spirit, we observe Juneteenth to support and salute African American employees at Abode, who comprise 17 percent of our workforce along with the more than 4,000 African American participants or residents of our programs and housing sites. Please join us in proudly celebrating Juneteenth.

🎉🎊 Happy Juneteenth from all of us at the Crime and Justice Institute (CJI)! 🎊🎉 Today, we join in commemorating the emancipation of enslaved African Americans and celebrating the resilience, strength, and contributions of Black communities across the nation. Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day or Emancipation Day, marks the day—June 19th, 1865—when news of emancipation reached enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation. It serves as a powerful reminder of the ongoing struggle for justice, equality, and freedom. At CJI, we are committed to advancing racial equity and dismantling systems of oppression within the criminal justice system. We recognize that the fight for justice is inseparable from the fight for racial justice, and we remain dedicated to centering the voices and experiences of communities disproportionately impacted by mass incarceration and systemic racism. #Juneteenth #FreedomDay #EmancipationDay #RacialEquity #JusticeForAll

🌟 Honoring Juneteenth and Addressing Disparities 🌟 As we commemorate Juneteenth, a day of immense historical significance, PAAR stands in solidarity with our African American community. We recognize that the fight for freedom, equality, and justice extends to all aspects of life, including addressing the disproportionate impact of sexual violence on black survivors. Juneteenth represents the emancipation of enslaved African Americans, marking a pivotal moment in our nation’s history. However, it is crucial to acknowledge that systemic racism and its interconnections persist, contributing to the disparities faced by black individuals, including survivors of sexual violence. Studies have shown that black survivors disproportionately experience sexual violence, often facing unique challenges when seeking support and justice. At PAAR, we are committed to amplifying their voices, advocating for their rights, and providing a safe space where healing and empowerment can occur. We encourage everyone to take a moment to reflect on the intersection of racial injustice and sexual violence. Let us use this Juneteenth as an opportunity to deepen our understanding, have difficult conversations, and support survivors in their healing journeys. Together, we can work towards dismantling systems of oppression and creating a more inclusive and equitable society. #Juneteenth #PAAR #BlackLivesMatter #SexualViolenceAwareness #Empowerment #Equality #Justice #Healing #Support #Inclusion
