Our Director of Employer and Regional Engagement (DERE) is where you can make a significant impact. This external-facing manager leads our employer relations and also creates opportunities for students through our incredible alumni and parent network. https://lnkd.in/gtJu52WR You may be thinking, "What's up with two leadership openings at the same time?" It's simple... one of our outstanding directors retired, and our other talented director recently got appointed to an executive leadership role. Even more exciting is that we are early in our strategic plan, added new roles, and repositioned our team based on our strategic priorities. Our work (both internal and external) is only possible through partnerships and collaboration. Our impact is driven by knowing our students through robust data initiatives and creating innovative and tailored ways to engage them to discern, pursue, and achieve their aspirations. These two leaders will work alongside a team of welcoming and mission-driven colleagues in our centralized career center and across campus to advance career development for students from all majors and backgrounds pursuing any career path. My value proposition as the supervisor of both of these roles is simple. As University of Notre Dame colleagues and mentors have invested in me for 25 years, I will pay it forward and invest in you. "Outside of popular anecdotes and social media stories, there is little evidence that a single, defined “purpose” is necessary for a rewarding career. In fact, it can be quite the opposite. It’s surprisingly common to go after what we think is our “purpose” only to discover that we hate it. The evidence connects career satisfaction (or career happiness) to less lofty things like doing “what you like, prefer, enjoy” and “what you are good at."" This piece in HBR really resonated with me. Often, young people joining the workforce feel this immense expectation of finding their purpose. Often, this pressure helps no one. Starting with things and skills you're good at and you enjoy practising is a much better approach than saddling your initial work opportunities with finding purpose. Finding purpose is overrated. Life's too dynamic to live under very narrow definitions of what work should mean. What do you think?

After 3 years I am finally back in the workforce! It feels surreal yet undeniably gratifying. As a young professional navigating the job market without a decade-plus of experience under my belt, I've always admired companies that recognize the value in hiring individuals with limited experience. These are the organizations that understand everyone begins somewhere; every qualified professional was once a newcomer to their field. Also, I recently came to realize qualification doesn't come from a predetermined number of years—it's cultivated through real-world work and hands-on experience.
