The SiTa Foundation just hit a major milestone! Our discreet, ultra-low power safety device for victims of violence (domestic/intimate partner, on-campus assaults, etc.) made its first voice call on AT&T’s CAT-M network this week. Our device is designed to be hidden under clothing, attached to an undergarment, and activated when the individual feels threatened. An audio recording of the incident is made as well as the device being able to call for help (911, social services, campus security, etc.).  By using the new CAT-M network, which is designed for IoT devices, we expect our device to be able to make a five-minute phone call even after not being charged for half a year (that’s with the device in standby and checking in to our servers regularly!). Congrats to the team for reaching this milestone! We are looking forward to product trials in the first half of 2022.   The SiTa Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Please contact me if you are interested in supporting our efforts with a donation, providing introductions to individuals or corporations who may be interested in what we are developing, or if you would like to learn more.  These are some of the alarming statistics that have me fired up to work on this: ·      Domestic violence is responsible for nearly ½ of the annual female homicides in the U.S., with 3 women killed daily. ·      15% to over 50% of all calls to 911 are related to domestic violence. ·      Domestic violence costs our society an estimated $460,000,000,000 (yes, $460B!) annually. That’s over 14x the annual budget of the DoJ. ·      Recidivism is looked at on a six month horizon because that’s how long an assailant is on probation for. No other data is collected about intimate partner violence. ·      College women are twice as likely to be sexually assaulted than robbed.
