Through the COP16 business statement, we’re urging governments to:
🌎 Make sure business and financial actors protect nature and restore degraded ecosystems
🌎 Ensure sustainable resource use and management to reduce negative environmental impacts
🌎 Value and embed nature in decision-making and disclosure
🌎 Align all financial flows to transition to a nature-positive, net zero and equitable economy
🌎 Adopt or strengthen ambitious global agreements to address key nature loss challenges
We recognize the real risks nature loss is already having and will continue to have and are committed to act. But we cannot address the challenges alone, and voluntary business action is not enough.

The Biodiversity Plan (Global Biodiversity Framework) aims to reset our relationship with the natural world, which is essential to tackle the #ClimateCrisis and reduce inequality.

Now - with less than 100 days until #COP16, over 130 businesses have endorsed our statement calling governments to strengthen their nature policies and accelerate #NatureAction.
Thomas Cox at Carbon Pulse explores the five policy recommendations in the businesses in the statement, which are:
🌎 Ensure that business and financial actors protect nature and restore degraded ecosystems;
🌎 Ensure the use and sustainable management of resources to reduce negative environmental impacts;
🌎 Value and include nature in decision-making and dissemination;
🌎 Align all financial flows for the transition to a positive economy for nature, net zero and equitable;
🌎 Adopt or strengthen ambitious global agreements to address the main challenges of loss of nature.

Launched at #COP28 today, the Action Agenda on #Regenerative Landscapes will aggregate, amplify and accelerate efforts to put large agricultural landscapes on a more sustainable, equitable and resilient path ahead of COP30.
The agenda seeks to translate regenerative commitments from top food and agriculture players into tangible actions and projects that simultaneously:
🌱 Boost soil health
📉 Reduce GHG emissions
🐝 Protect and restore biodiversity
💦 Improve water security
👩🌾 Promote resilient livelihoods for farmers
"It's very reassuring to know that global leaders are finally recognizing that #RegenerativeAgriculture can help save the planet," said FOLU Ambassador Jai Shroff on the sidelines of the launch today.

🍃 Where do we stand worldwide with SDG Goal 15: Life on land?
According to current figures:
- 1 million out of 8 million animal and plant species are threatened with extinction.
- 75% of the most biodiverse areas are in developing and emerging countries.
- For 1/3 of humans, forests are an important basis of existence.
Yvonne Zwick, Chairwoman of B.A.U.M. e.V. - Netzwerk für nachhaltiges Wirtschaften says:
"Nearly 100 million net hectares of forest have been lost in the last two decades, and the global risk of species extinction has increased with each decade since 1993. If SDG 15 is not achieved, about 80 percent of all other SDGs will also be at risk, for example food security, clean water or combating climate change. Without preserving tropical forests, the 1.5-degree target cannot be achieved. We need a fundamental shift in the economy toward a regenerative economy – for our common future!"
