Brussels never disappoints on weather… Great to have the Cbamboo team and Anna Jerzewska, PhD and Gabriel Rozenberg visit our sunshine city.
The #CBAM regulation, adopted last year, is novel and sets a level playing field for companies operating in the EU. Companies are mandated to collect detailed (and accurate) emissions data from their value chains. Altogether, the regulation can support the global move towards a more carbon efficient society.
At the same time, companies will have to find efficient ways to reduce the burden of compliance. For exactly this purpose, Cbamboo was founded. Since its inception in mid 2023, Cbamboo has received tremendous interest from industry and onboarded customers on its platform. In engaging with importers and suppliers, the company has collected a breadth and spread of valuable perspectives on the regulation, but also on some of the challenges with complying with the CBAM-methodology.
So, it has been great sharing some of this collected and compiled knowledge last week with EU lawmakers and industry associations, and to discuss how the latest technology can support achieving the ambitions of the regulation; to promote carbon efficient production, but at the same time maintain and increase the competitiveness of EU companies.

Last Friday part of the Cbamboo team met in Brussels for a series of meetings with the EU Commission, think tanks and other stakeholders. Followed by a mandatory afternoon drink at Place Lux.
Challenges around the implementation of CBAM continue. Based on the current level of compliance it's difficult to imagine companies being ready to provide actual values later this year.
The fact that CBAM reporting entities rely on data that needs to come from suppliers located in 3rd countries (or suppliers' suppliers) where the level of awareness and readiness is even lower, does not bode well.
On Friday, we discussed how Cbamboo can support finding solutions to these challenges.
