The sad truth, unfortunately. In three decades, Kent could start to look very different according to a report which had made a worrying forecast for the future. Areas predicted to be affected by this are Dover, Deal, Canterbury and many more towns in Kent. You can read the full article here https://lnkd.in/eZUUbYV4

"A well-designed Main Street takes weather into account to create an environment that welcomes everyone." Earlier this year, we shared this article about designing communities for heat. As we move into fall, it is a good time to start thinking about other types of weather that impact Main Streets. Cold-weather communities: how have you designed your streets for snow? Bristol mayor Marvin Rees delivered his final State of the City Address last night. It was both a reflective and forward looking speech, sharing some of what has been achieved, learnings and also what Rees hopes is to come for Bristol after he steps down in May 2024. Housing, transport and moving in the right direction for people and the planet were core themes. Here are some of our key takeaways: 🏠 Delivering the right homes, in the right locations "this will be one of the biggest determinants of our future climate impact" There are 20,000 people on the waiting list for a home in Bristol and 1,300 in temporary accommodation. He highlighted how politicians need to work with developers to ensure homes help deliver on the UN Sustainable Development Goals. 🌍 Climate and ecology focus Rees empahsised that it isn't just the politicial will that will drive forward development in the right direction for climate. It needs a lot of money, too. 🚉 Transport Moving hundreds of thousands of people every day is no mean feat. With the overground train system not viable, he is pushing for the ambitious underground system to become a reality. Transport has been a hot topic for Bristolians for many years. Marvin stated: "We must go beyond make do and mend. This is a moment where we can make a decision that shapes the city for a century and more." 🌱 Regeneration Rees focused on the Temple Quarter regeneration, pushing for focus, long term commitment and collaboration for its success - meeting Bristol's needs and reduce the price the planet pays for that.
