I think the comments from the Mayor do not go far enough when it comes to private sector participation in nonprofits.
Working for an organization that helps with affordable housing if people do not become homeless in the first place it will help society.
Building more affordable housing and working with agencies that keep renters and homeowners facing evictions will save hundreds of people from this situation.
Assisting other smaller nonprofits as well, I can tell you most of these organizations would love (and definitely need) professionals who are passionate about the missions of these organizations and are willing to provide expertise to help them achieve their goals.
This is also an opportunity for up and coming professionals within an organization to learn leadership skills.
Hopefully more people will volunteer their time as board members or in general to help with the multitude of issue affecting society.

Advancing social justice principles through strategic philanthropy
"Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Convening and Capacity Building oversees: 1) the Foundation’s non-profit sector capacity-building programs; and 2) ZSR’s efforts to connect and convene grantees and other partners. The position also co-leads ZSR’s efforts to operationalize its racial equity lens. This is a new position that will be part of a five-person executive team." https://buff.ly/48RqmvE
The nonprofit starvation cycle is real, and #funders are at fault. The National Council of Nonprofits' latest report on the #nonprofit hiring crisis shows what's at stake. From the piece, for Inside Philanthropy:
"Three out of four respondents (74%) reported vacancies in their program and service delivery positions, while two out of five (41.1%) reported vacant entry-level positions. These vacant jobs mean that meals aren’t being served, job-seekers aren’t receiving the training they need, and at-risk children are being left at risk. ** Wherever nonprofits are providing direct services across the country, chances are that vulnerable people aren’t being served because virtually no one can afford to work at the jobs that would serve them." **

“it’s long past time for funders, public and private alike, to pay for nonprofits’ full costs of doing business. Experts in the field are clear: Those costs include paying living wages.”
We have to break the cycle of nonprofit starvation if we are truly going to make an impact in the world.

Did you know that America's nonprofit sector is seeing massive growth? In the past 15 years alone nonprofits have seen a 33% growth in employment becoming one of the largest industries in the country. This not only offers potential for meaningful employment, but also suggests that more and more work will be done to influence society without the incentives of profit driving decision-making. Read Andrew Van Dam's analysis below to learn more about nonprofit employment trends. #nonprofit#employment#washingtonpost#employmenttrends
Until funders and governing policies account for the importance of providing resources and safeguards for overheads, staff and administration, The sector as a whole is never going to be truly effective. Social impact will not be achieved only through tech platforms and fancy jargon. It is the people who drive the work till the last mile and make quality services accessible and available for the most vulnerable groups. The people- the skilled, dedicated, purpose driven staff members- who, at the very least, need job security, living wage, healthcare and other basic work benefits like healthcare and paid leaves. Even the rare NGOs that have the honest intent to provide the best working experience for their staff are limited by the lack of support (and active barriers put in place) by their funders and governments.

Last month, I chatted with Steve Dubb at the Nonprofit Quarterly about my role at Independent Sector, including why I was first drawn to IS and the organization’s current and future directions. We explored questions like …
✔️ How do we collaborate with policymakers to ensure the nation’s #nonprofits can better serve their communities?
✔️How can we develop emerging sector #leaders that have a deep #equity and justice background?
✔️ How should we support our nonprofit #workforce and invest in the people who make this sector successful?
