Technicians have a variety of skills you may be unaware of. Here are a few: - Electrical knowledge Techs need to understand how electricity works and what is required for a specific device. They have to have the knowledge of an electrician and the skills of an engineer. - Mechanical understanding Techs must know how things like how gears, motors and solenoids work. We are the mechanics of this industry. - Advanced computer skills This is more than just using apps. We have to understand, really understand, how a computer works, physically and electronically. We must understand drivers, software, networks, security protocols and sometimes programming. - Customer Experience We need to have the ability to speak about issues and solutions people who may not fully understand. We must have the capacity to be patient with others while having the savvy of a sales rep. As you can see, we offer a lot to our customers and companies. We are the electrician, mechanic, IT and sales all wrapped into one package. I found an air compressor technician in California who is    A non-job hopper.   A rotary screw and centrifugal compressor expert    He is experienced in electrical and mechanical engineering, past the compressor.   HE was only asking for 30.00 per hour!?   There is an old saying- if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is    I had to ask the candidate directly.    “ You sound too good to be true; what is the catch?”   “ Are you an ax murder?????”   Candidate    “ ha, no, sir. I am a worn-out tech who has worked hard in the field.”   “ I know my value, but I’m looking for a company that wants me to focus on resolving the issues.”   “I am methodical with my work and don’t take shortcuts.”   “I am not the fastest. I am a tortoise, not a hare. Everything I do is based on the long term.”   A good recruiter can uncover what is not being said.   This conversation has led to a custom job speciation from my client.   They have found not only their air compressor tech but also a team member with whom they can plan long-term growth.
